While visiting the fascinating capital city of Cairo, we’ll visit
ancient cities, hop on the back of a camel, climb inside pyramids,
marvel at the Sphinx, wander through an abundance of artifacts,
and explore the bustling bazaar that is Khan el-Khalili.
We will travel back in time while sailing on our private dahabia
(traditional double-masted boat) along the majestic Nile, the life blood
of Egypt. Not only will we visit the ancient temples, but we’ll get a
feel for modern day life along the Nile when we visit villages, explore
markets and interact with locals.
Our trip also includes memorable stops at the world famous Temple
of Luxor, the Valley of the Kings and Memphis, the first capital city of
Egypt.
While visiting the iconic sites that Egypt is so famous for, we will, of
course, offer many unique experiences during your voyage that you have come to expect from a Global So-

Nicknamed the City of a Thousand Minarets, Cairo also is the largest city in Africa. With its ancient
history, dramatic architecture and cultural importance, this metropolis on the Nile will captivate your
senses.
We’ll spend the next two days and three nights exploring Cairo and the surrounds.
Upon arrival at the Cairo International Airport you will be met by a representative from Global So-
journs who will assist you with your luggage and transfer you to our hotel in downtown Cairo. We
will have a relaxing dinner at the hotel which will allow you to rest after your flight and prepare for
your upcoming adventures.

Today we’ll take in central Cairo with all of it’s vibrancy! After breakfast we’ll meet with our Egyp-
tologist guide who will provide us with an introduction to Egypt and give us an overview of our trip.
We begin exploring this ancient city with a visit to the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities. The museum
has over 180,000 pieces of antiquities including treasures of the child Pharaoh Tutankhamen. We will
explore museum highlights with an Egyptologist and then you will have time to explore the museum
further on your own. We’ll have lunch in a local restauarnt before returning to hotel for a rest before
our evening outing.
Late this afternoon we’ll have a special talk (informal and relaxed but full of rich information) by Dr.
Manal Kelig, an expert in modern and contemporary history of Egypt and the Middle East. She’ll
help us better understand the issues that Egypt faces today- the culture, politics, the status of women,
religion and more. Come with your questions!
This evening we’ll explore Khan El Khalili market, visit workshops, walk around Islamic Cairo and
have a local meal here. Be ready for a full evening!

Following breakfast at the hotel we have an exciting day visiting ancient cities, spectacular pyramids
and one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Today is a full day outside the hotel so be ready
with cameras, memory cards and anything you might use during the day.
Our drive to the Pyramids will take 45 minutes to an hour, depending on Cairo traffic. Soak up the
colorful sights and sounds as we traverse this bustling city. Our visit to the sites are set up in chrono-
logical order to help us understand the importance and function of the pyramids.
We first visit the remains of the ancient city of Memphis, the first capital of Egypt. From there we
travel to Saqqara, the ancient burial ground for the city of Memphis. It is also the location of the old-
est step pyramid and the first stone construction pyramid in ancient history. Following lunch in a local
restaurant we travel to one of the highlights of the day, the Pyramids of Giza. We will have the oppor-
tunity to explore the area and climb inside one of the pyramids before visiting the ancient structure of

the mythological creature, the Sphinx. Also included in this memorable day is a chance to climb onto
the back of a camel for a short ride.

This morning we say goodbye to the city of Cairo for an early morning flight to Aswan with a stop
in Abu Simbel. During our stop in Abu Simbel we travel by private transportation to the ancient rock
temples located on the Nubian border. They are considered some of the most fascinating monuments
in the world and are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the “Nubian Monuments.”
Following our visit to the temples we re-board the airplane for our flight to Aswan where we check
into the hotel and have an afternoon visit to the temples of Philae. As flight times tend to be quite
flexible and determined by the local airline, today’s timing of our adventures will also remain flex-
ible.

• As checked luggage will remain on board the airplane during our visit to Abu Simbel we recom-
mend you pack a day bag to carry during our stop-over.
• Reminder – baggage limitations for this flight are 20 kg (44 lbs) total.

One of the early travelers wrote, “The Egyptian nile surpasses all rivers of the earth in sweetness of
taste, length and of course utiltiy. No other river in the world can show such continuation, series of
towns and villages along its banks or a basin so intensely cutivated.” We’ll spend the next few days
exploring this magical land aboard our private dahabia.
Designed along the traditional lines of old Egyptian sailing boats, the passenger cabins are comfort-
ably appointed and equipped with private facilities. A spacious sundeck offers ample topside space
for relaxing and watching the timeless scenery drift by. Our well trained, attentive crew, freshly pre-
pared meals and modern safety features complete this unique sailing experience. A variety of Egyp-
tian dishes with fresh fruits and vegetables will be served.

Once settled on board, we have a relaxing day. We’ll explore a local village/town and meet with a
Nubian family. We then return to our boat and set sail to discover more sites along the river.
One of the unique advantages of having our own dahabia is that we’ll be able to have a flexible
schedule, taking advantage of stops in local markets and opportunities to meet locals. Each evening
we will stay in a different location along the Nile.

After a morning sail to Daraw, we take local, traditional taxis to Daraw town proper to absorb the
atmosphere while visiting the local market and a camel barn. We then return to the boat for a short
sail to Kom Ombo. In this city, celebrated for its magnificent temples, we will visit one of the most
famous; a double Greco Roman temple dedicated to the God Haroeris and the crocodile God Sobek.
In addition to viewing one of the rare wall engravings that show medical equipment of the ancient
Egyptians, we will see some of the mummified crocodiles discovered in the surrounding area.
We return to our home on the river to have dinner while we set sail for our next destination.
Following a morning sail to Silsila, we visit the famous sandstone quarries. These quarries have great
historical significance as the sandstone at these quarries was used to build the temples of Luxor, As-
wan and Edfu. We’ll also visit another village/town and learn more about modern day life along the
Nile.
This morning we sail to Edfu. We say good-by to our dahabia and get our land legs to explore the
best preserved sandstone temple in Egypt. This temple, dedicated to one of the forms of the Falcon
God Horus, was once buried under the mud and silt of the Nile flood and was unearthed in the 19th
century. It was built by the Greek Pharaohs in approximately 230 B.C.
After a lunch with local flavor, we proceed on to Luxor to explore Egypt’s greatest compound of
temples, the Temples of Karnak and the world renown Temple of Luxor.
The Karnak Temple Complex is the largest compound of temples built by man, and has some of the
biggest standing columns and walls from Ancient Egypt. Almost every pharaoh of the eighteenth
dynasty added something to the temple site. The temple of Amun Re in Karnak was connected to the
temple of Luxor by an avenue of sphinxes that extended for 2.5 kilometers. The wives of Amun Re
would have lived there and occasionally he would have left the temple to go to Luxor Temple using
the Avenue of Sphinxes to visit his wives during the Fertility Festival.
After checking into the well situated Sonesta St. George Hotel, you will have the evening free to
explore the local restaurants and take in the night life. Should you choose to stay in tonight, you will
have a variety of restaurants, lounges and cafes, including entertainment, within the hotel to choose
from.

Today we head to the West Bank of Luxor to explore the tombs of the pharaohs in the Valley of the
Kings, and the tombs of the princes and queens in the Valley of the Queens. We will also visit the
mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut, the first female to rule the country openly while also repre-
senting herself as a man.
The Valley of the Kings was used for burials from approximately 1539 BC to 1075 B.C. With the
2006 discovery of a new chamber, and the 2008 discovery of two further tomb entrances, the valley is
known to contain 63 tombs and chambers, ranging in size from a simple pit to a complex tomb with
over 120 chambers. The Valley of the Queens is the burial site not only of the wives of the pharaohs,

We’ll enjoy lunch in the West Bank in a small restaurant that is located next to local art center where
we can visit with a local artist. We’ll reflect on our adventure and celebrate our time together!
For those heading home, you will board an afternoon flight to Cairo. You’ll stay at at the Faimont
Heliopolis Hotel, conveniently located near the airport. Enjoy dinner at the hotel as you reflect on
your adventure and prepare for your journey home.

White Desert Extension
Join us for this unique opportunity to explore the stunning otherworldly landscape of the White Des-
ert and learn about the lives of the Bedouins. We’ll spend two nights in Dakhla, located on the edge
of the White Desert and considered one of Egypt’s most beautiful oases. We’ll then get into 4x4s to
explore the surreal landscape of the desert and sleep under the stars. We’ll have one more night in the
area at the Baharia Oasis before we begin our trip back to Cairo.
The White Desert is actually made of chalk that has been exposed for thousands of years to what ge-
ologists call “differential weathering,” the erosion of soft particles which result in eerie protrusions of
hard rock. This explains the breathtaking formations that now fill the White Desert given names like
“monoliths,” “mushrooms,” “ice cream cones,” “tents” and “crickets.”
We’ll be staying in basic but comfortable accommodations with character.
We’ll have an early departure from Luxor and travel by road to Dakhla (approximately 8 hours) mak-
ing some stops along the way at Kharga Oasis and special sites such as the Bagawat tombs and Ro-
man temples. While it is a very full day, our extended journey will allow for a two night stay in this
culturally important area surrounded by pick cliffs and local farms, whose caretakers constantly fight
the battle of the dunes that threaten their fields and orchards.
During our stay in Dakhla, we’ll take part in a mix of activities where we will meet with locals, expe-
rience a home hosted meal, visit farms and orchards, visit culturally important sites and maybe even
hear stories from a local Bedouin. We’ll also try to have some time to kick back, relax and soak

In the morning we’ll visit local villages and then climb into 4x4s and drive to the White Desert (ap-
proximately 3 hours). We’ll have lunch on the way.
Once in the White Desert we’ll explore by vehicle and foot, the incredibly unique white limestone
formations found only in this area. This is a once in a lifetime experience that will beguile all of our
senses.
Tonight we sleep in the peaceful Egyptian desert in the comfort of our Arabian style tents. Each of the
24 spacious tents has windows to allow for a bit of fresh air and a heavenly view, beds and soft, warm
blankets. We’ll enjoy the breathtaking sunrise and sunset as only a night in the desert can provide.
We dine tonight in the White Desert camp restaurant – an Arabian Bedouin traditional tent – in which
we’ll enjoy a typical Egyptian meal including teas, coffee and traditional drinks as well as Sheesha, a
traditional Egyptian water pipe.

Special Note: The weather in the desert can be quite extreme and hats and sunscreen are strongly
advised. It is important to keep well hydrated. The camp provides shared toilets and showers.
We spend the morning exploring the vast White Desert before continuing onto Bahariya Oasis (ap-
proximately 2 1/2 hour drive). On the way, we’ll visit Crystal Mountain where we can view the spar-
kling quartz crystals embedded in the hill.
The people of the oasis, or the Wahati people, are the descendants of the Bedouin tribes from Libya
and the north coast, and other people from the Nile Valley who came to settle in the oasis.

This morning we’ll visit the temple of Alexander, the only temple in Egypt dedicated to Alexander
the Great. We then pay a visit to the tomb of Benantui before heading to the Baharia Museum to see
the recently discovered Golden Mummies. We then drive to Cairo making stops along the way as
needed. The drive from Baharia to Cairo takes approximately 4 hours, depending on our stops.
We’ll stay at at the Fairmont Heliopolis Hotel, conveniently located near the airport. We’ll enjoy din-

Securing Space on the Trip
A deposit of $500 is needed to hold space. Full payment is due 75 days prior to the start date.
Rooming
If you want to share a room but do not have a room-mate, we will do what we can to place you with a room-mate of the same sex. If a
room-mate is not available, you will be responsible for covering the single supplement charges.
Accommodations
Global Sojourns is known for seeking out small intimate camps/lodges and boutique hotels for our clients. As Egypt offers very lim-
ited boutique accommodations, we have chosen hotels based on their comfort, location and good value for money. The dahabia will
provide you with intimate, comfortable accommodations and a connection to the local culture. Accommodations in the White Desert
extension are comfortable and rather basic, but come with quite a bit of character.

Itinerary Flexibility
We reserve the right to carry out any necessary change to the itinerary due to any conditions on the ground in which we would find it
of benefit to the client, either for taking advantage of special opportunities or for any unforeseen conditions.
Visa
US citizens are required to have a visa. Visa may be obtained in advance or upon arrival at the Cairo airport. For US citizens, the cost
at the airport is USD $15.00. Exact change is preferred. All change will be in Egyptian pounds which you can use during the trip.
Insurance
Please be sure that you take out comprehensive travel insurance to safeguard against cancellation and curtailment, medical expenses,
repatriation expenses, damage/theft/loss of personal baggage, money and personal belongings.
Baggage
Please note that the baggage allowance on internal flights is 20 kgs/ (44 lb.s) per person.
Security
In addition to your tour guide, some parts of the trip will also be accompanied by a security escort. As tourism is an important part of
the Egyptian economy, the Egyptian government provides these escorts to accompany travellers to various locations. The Egyptian
government values tourism and provides this free of charge to ensure visitors to their country feel safe and have an enriching experi-
ence.
Surcharges
All rates quoted are based on tariffs and the value of foreign currencies in relation to the U.S. dollar at the time of our calculation and
we do our best to keep prices as quoted. However, occasionally increases (e.g. park fees, taxes) are forced on us by governments,
airlines, exchange rates, etc.. In these instances, we reserve the right to fairly pass on a surcharge to our travelers.

TERMS & CONDITIONS
PAYMENT TERMS: A deposit of $500 per person is required at the time of booking. The balance is due 75 days before commence-
ment of the arrangements. If the reservation is made within 75 days of departure the whole amount must be paid at the time of confir-
mation. If the balance is not received prior to 75 days before departure, Global Sojourns L.L.C. reserves the right to treat the trip as
cancelled. All payments may be made by check or major credit card (Visa or M/C).
Upon agreement of the itinerary, you will be sent detailed travel information and a couple of forms to fill out. Please review the infor-
mation and send in a signed liability waiver with your deposit.
CANCELLATION POLICY: It is very important that you are aware of our cancellation policy which comes into force as soon as a
booking is made definite. These policies are based on those of the suppliers we are using for this itinerary. Cancellations are only
effective on receipt of a written cancellation. Cancellation charges will be levied when travelers cancel their confirmed reservations as
follows:
Prior to 76 days = $350 cancellation fee
45-75 days prior to trip = 30% of trip cost
Within 30-45 days prior to trip: 50% of trip cost
Within 8-29 days prior to the trip: 75% of trip cost
Within 7 days = 100% of trip cost
Please note that we contract services and accommodation of third parties who have their own cancellation policies that may differ
from ours and on occasion these must be adhered to. Some parties may require partial or full payment up front in order to confirm a
booking - on cancellation this larger deposit may therefore be forfeited as per the third party’s cancellation policy.
AIRLINES: The airfare and airport tax quoted are current and are therefore subject to change without prior warning should the airline
impose an increase in the rate for any reason. The airfare quoted is based on the lowest class fare available at the time of quoting and
is subject to seats being available in that class at the time of booking. Neither Global Sojourns nor our ground operators can be held
responsible should airlines discontinue flights on a particular routing or change schedules resulting in missed connections. Should an
amendment in a routing or itinerary be necessary we will re-quote accordingly.
TRIP INSURANCE: Global Sojourns, L.L.C. strongly recommends that each participant take out trip insurance- trip cancellation/in-
terruption coverage as well as medical expense and evacuation coverage. This is designed to give you peace of mind and protect you
in case of unexpected events such as a medical emergency or if you lose pre-paid, non-refundable trip deposits and payments because
of cancellation or trip interruption due to illness, injury, or death of someone in your traveling party, an immediate or extended family
member, or a business partner. Typically, these services and expenses are not fully covered by your credit card company, homeowner’s
policy, and/or medical insurance. We can recommend some companies if you do not already have a company that you use. It is
important that you are clear on what exactly they will be covering thus is it recommended that you speak to the insurance company
directly.
TRAVEL DOCUMENTS: Each client is entirely responsibility to ensure that they are in possession of all the necessary travel docu-
ments, including a valid passport (with at least 6 months validity after departure from the host country and with sufficient blank pages
for each country’s immigration stamps and visas requirements), valid visas, air tickets that have you arriving in time for the start of
your trip and valid vaccination certificates.
MEDICAL INFORMATION: It is each client’s responsibility to make sure they are fit enough for the intended trip. It is essential
that persons with any pre-existing medical condition(s) and/or dietary restrictions make them known to us well before departure. Be
aware that you are traveling in remote geographical areas which may have limited standards of hygiene, sanitation facilities, medical
treatment and that medical services, including the presence of a physician or any other trained medical professional and availability of
prescription type drugs may be limited or altogether absent.
RESPONSIBILITY: Global Sojourns L.L.C. and its owners act only as agents for the clients with respect to services provided, in-
cluding but not limited to accommodations, activities and all forms of transportation. All tour services are provided by independent
contractors who are not controlled by Global Sojourns L.L.C.. Global Sojourns L.L.C. assumes no responsibility or liability for injury,
death, damage, loss, accident, delay or change in air or other services howsoever caused, irregularity, inconvenience or additional
expenses which may be occasioned directly or indirectly by quarantines, strikes, weather, sickness, wars theft, pilferage, force majeur,
wild animals, failure of any means of conveyance to arrive or depart as scheduled. Over booking, travel advisories, discrepancies or
changes in transit, hotel and other services over which it has no control, or any act of God occurring in either the country of origin,
destination or through passage, or for any reason whatsoever. On advancement of deposit to Global Sojourns L.L.C. the depositor
therefore agrees to be bound by the above recited terms and conditions.
