Bullying
Introduction :
Bullying or school harassment produces victims that suffer daily for the cruelty of their
classmates.
Lot of kids kill them selves because of bullying and this can be prevented .When mockery
becomes harassment, nicknames turn to something worse and the jokes end in a fight so It is
difficult to consider that is a "boys' stuff".
In the USA, bullying has the dimension of an epidemic but in Argentina, this way of violence is
in full expansion. Although there’s no official statistics, an international study made with
Unesco's information demonstrated that our country is on the top of the ranking of insults and
abuse in the region. The 37% of the students replied he was insulted or threatened and the
24% said that was beated by other partners.
There's a campaign to stop aggression between students. It is about an initiative, called "stop
bullying, don't stay quiet", that asks boys and girls to sign an agreement against this practice.
The consequences are the deterioration of self-esteem, anxiety, depression, phobia to school
and suicide attempt, with negative repercussions in the development of personality,
socialization and mental health in general.
You have to be prepared to face awkward behavior and group pressure. Break the law of
silence.
There are 5 kinds of bullying:
Sexual Bullying
Could be a distracted form of touching a person and dening it immediately. Press
someone to do something unwanted, like watching pornography or giving a kiss when
he doesn't want it. The extreme of this practice is sexual abuse, using force to oblige
a person to have sexual relations.
Bullying of social exclusion
Tendency to exclude a girl or a boy that according to the group
leader is "STUPID", a "NERD", etc. He is ignored, he’s isolated. The
victim takes a lot of time to understand the
intention of the exclusion and the group enjoys that rejection.
Psychological Bullying
Causing fear in the victim is the axis of this practice. He’s
persecuted, and forced to do unwanted things, like consuming drugs
or drinking alcohol. The kid lives with anguish to meet the abuser in
the hallways, courtyards or out the school.
Ciberbullying.
Today the practice of recording the fights in the school and
uploading them to Youtube has become constant, as if it was
something funny. It is a form of ridiculing and devaluing someone.
This is associated to places like "the cage", a portal that enables
students from different schools to spread gossip, slanders,
vulgarities about anybody.. These are spaces of undervaluing
someone, where anonymity enables the tones of the insults
disqualify the image of anybody. Internet abuse has a expression
that is more alarming, which is the adults bullies that pretend to be
younger and using chat rooms seduce a victim with serious effects
in the physical and mental health of the youngsters
Bullying between brothers.
Usually in the families, the interaction between brothers is related to
their place in the birth order. A lot of parents, without realizing,
promote competition, and for that reason rivalry appears. Because
of these, brothers tend to ridicule the other for his virtues. In the
family space, the aggression keeps worsening to win the approval
and the attention of the parents
Physical Bullying:
From pushing, pulling, teasing to punching
and hitting, sometimes in a collective way
in which the witnesses encourage,
pleasantly watch or even film the fights
with their cellphones...
Conclusion
We talked to Juan Franco, a psychology teacher, he said that when
someone has been bullied, it is important that for his adult life " not
to keep those painful experiences in mind as they profoundly shape
the life of the person".
Ghosts of pain need to be worked, spoken in therapy, controls, tell
someone about them, talk about it and put these feelings into
words.
It´s hard to know who´s gonna be a victim because anyone could
be. Victims are mainly those people that feel vulnerable in that
moment of their life and someone perceives that vulnerability and
transforms it in the object of teasing, jesting, constant harassment.
What is important is to stop the jokes, nicknames, unrest in order
not to reach extreme situations.
We are responsible (directly or indirectly) to help those who suffer it,
to be inserted in society and we are also responsible for not letting
bullies harass the weak ones who are close to us.
Amanda Todd story
Amanda Todd was 15 years old when she
killed herself. Everything started when she
was approximately 13 years old. That year
she talked with a stranger and she showed
her body to him in a video chat. When
everyone knew what happened in that
video chat, they started to hate her, to
bully her. Amanda told us her story in a
youtube video through notes that she
wrote for show us. She is just one case of
all the victims of bullying around the world.
