2. Laptops
Although they are similar in many ways a laptop and a desktop computer are
very different.
Laptops are potable computers designed for people on the go.
Laptops can either be plugged into there AC adapter or use there
rechargeable battery as a source of power.
Throughout the years laptops have technologically advanced, this is through
becoming lighter, cheaper and the software in laptops has developed
dramatically, also there uses have increased making them appeal to a wider
range of customers.
Laptops have the same internal components as a desktop but there internal
components are smaller and are usually described as miniaturized. And
because of this it limits the overall performance of the Laptop.
3. Tablet
Tablets are the latest technology breakthrough in portable devices
that are similar to desktop and laptops.
A tablet is primarily operating by using a touch screen, so no external
components like a mouse or a keyboard is needed.
They sometimes come with a stylus pen or can be used using your
finger.
Tablets can connect to the internet wirelessly.
Tablets can connect to laptops or desktops by using a external cord
that saves the data from the tablet to the laptop or desktop like a daily
backup. This information can also be saved by using the cloud
Depending on the type of tablet that you have you, may be able to
message or video chat to those with tablets.
It contains quite a long battery life, which also depends on usage.
4. Desktop
A desktop also known as a PC (personal computer).
A desktop was the first computer that was originally designed for military
purposes.
A desktop consists of a tower, monitor, keyboard and mouse.
In more modern computers desktop monitors can be touch screen.
Desktops have advanced dramatically in software and hardware.
Desktops tend to be cheaper than the average laptop and parts tend to be
cheaper.
They have a larger overall maximum performance compared to Laptops
because they have no limitations.
Desktops are used for more professional purposes but software’s have been
made and they now appeal to a wider target audience.
5. Server
A server is a host computer network
It can offer multiple things such as; database server,
file server, mail server, print server, web server,
gaming server etc.
Server run on IP (Internet Protocol)
They provide essential services across a networks
from private (networks) to public (Internet) .
A common use of servers is that files can be shared
across a network.
6. Smart Phones
A smart phone is a average phone but is built using a
mobile operating system.
They can also be known as PDA's (Personal Digital
Assistant).
More modern versions of smart phones contain digital
cameras, media players, GPS, Wi-Fi, broadband, 3G or
4G.
The latest smart phones are touch screen.
There are 8 common mobile operating systems.
Most smart phones have a high resolution.
All smart phones are expensive ranging from £70 to
£300
7. Game Console
Is a form of entertainment.
These are some sort of game that use a display device
(monitor, TV screen).
As technology has developed so has the gaming industry,
making games more realistic and giving them a higher
resolution.
More modern game consoles connect to the internet to give an
extra feature to there games and there gaming experience.
Also more can be done that doesn't involve games, for example
people can browse the internet and chat to friends on a extra
feature that can be downloaded.
8. Embedded Systems
Is a computer systems designed to control a larger
system eg a car or plane
It often contains hardware or mechanical parts.
It was designed to be a flexible design to appeal to a
variety of users.
Embedded systems are designed specifically for one
system.
