1. Proposal
Subjects:
The main subjects for my photographs will be buildings. I will be primarily looking to shoot older
styles of buildings but may have to settle for more modern buildings. Either kind of building would
work but it is just a personal preference around shooting. If all goes well and travel plans are made I
will attempt to travel to Castle Howard again as I did in a previous shoot. This will allow me to be in a
place where I feel comfortable photographing and I will know my way around the area and where to
go to take the shots I need.
It will also allow me to create a comparison between the old style of architectural photography
which I previously took with the new style of photography and editing that I will be implementing
this time. This will not only be beneficial for me as It will show how I have progressed since the last
shoot but it will allow me to critically evaluate the techniques that I employ and how I can go about
improving my ideas further.
Locations:
The locations that I would like to travel to and use would preferably be Castle Howard as previously
mentioned I travelled there in the past and would feel comfortable and know that I am able to take
the shots that I need to take there.
If that is not an option I had a few other ideas for places that I could shoot. The college would give
me some options for my ideas as I could take photos of the outside of the building and then come
inside to photograph some of the classrooms and merge them together as per my idea. There are
also a few places that are local to me that I could experiment with. My own house would even be a
possibility as I could cross the street to take a photo of the outside and then come inside and take
pictures of each room from different angles, giving me an interesting finished product.
Techniques:
The techniques that I will be using will be primarily postproduction techniques however; I am also
considering experimenting with longer exposure shots of buildings that will allow me to get things
such as cloud movement in the background. I would also like to try and experiment with long
exposure shots from a slight distance which may allow me to get the movements of cars with their
lights on and other things moving past the building as well, this type of shot may work better from a
higher point of view so that the movements do not take away from the building itself.
I will be employing some postproduction techniques, mostly experimenting with some
double/multiple exposure shots of the insides and outsides of buildings. The other idea I have is to
take images of the outsides of building and using a type of crack and peel editing style to shoot the
inside of the building as well and combine the two images giving a sort of 3D view of the inside of
the building whilst looking at it from the outside.
2. Reasoning:
My reasoning for doing this kind of shoot goes back to the last photography module that we were
given at college. It was my first time using a camera really but I quickly adapted and learnt that I
enjoyed photographing architecture. I love learning new editing styles and challenging myself with
new techniques that I can take with me after I have finished the course, which Is why I have chosen
the idea that I have chosen. Using the editing style that I have chosen and the photography style it
allows me to combine two things that I really enjoy about photography together and learn new and
exciting ways to continue to make my work better.
