Project 4 Formal Proposal
1. Proposal for Interactive Media Product
1
Working Title:
Broken Bonds
Product’s Purpose:
The product’s purpose is to entertain
Genre:
It is a tactical rogue-lite
Content
The game is set in a fantasy world.
In the game the player will be able to choose a character for each “run”, during a run the player will
play as the chosen character collecting loot and battling enemies however when the player dies
their progress is reset and their loot is lost, Gold will be a type of loot which is kept when the player
dies, this will be used to purchase upgrades.
The story focuses on the group of playable characters all of whom have been thrown into a high
security prison, the goal of the game is to escape said high security prison. Each character will
have their own story however it will also be interwoven with other characters stories which requires
the player to try out multiple characters to advance.
the prison they have been thrown into is enchanted so that no prisoner can leave, the only way the
break the enchantment is to defeat the 5 wardens who will serve as boss fights.
Audience:
My audience is mostly male aged 14-30 however it is not specifically targeted to that audience and
anyone could enjoy the game.
Research and Planning:
I intend to use the planning I have done on the games “Hades” and “Divinity Original Sin 2” to learn
from their successes and shortcomings to create a product that is hopefully as good or better than
the sum of its parts. I will use what I wrote about in the research document as a guide for what
works and what does not, and I will also use what I have learnt about the connotations of colours
and symbols to make the game easier to understand.
Legal & Ethical Considerations:
I do not believe that there will be much, if any, content in my game that would offend someone and
due to this I do not believe age restricting the product is particularly necessary.
All artwork and gameplay mechanics would be of my own creation and the core gameplay will be
different enough to the games that inspired it so there should be no issues around copywrite
infringement.
