Course: Film, Photography and Media BA
Length of Course: 3-4 years (Option of year abroad or year in placement)
Course Content:
Year One: Lay the foundation of the course. Develop academic and practice-based skills.
Introduction to screenwriting, camera, editing and photographic practices. Put these into
context and build critical skills with history and theory of film.
Year Two: Expand and enhance skills. Work on short film project and take further core
modules in photography and cinema. Specialise in topics that suit your interests, career plans
and abilities.
Year Three: Optional Modules (Audience research, mobile media, documentary journalism
and international communication) Undertake optional four week work placement.

Career Opportunities: This course will allow you to develop creative and technical skills
across three different yet related disciplines. Graduates have been recruited by a variety of
prestigious companies in different sectors of media and the creative industry, including film

Course: Filmmaking
Length of Course: 3 years
Course Content:
Year One – Begin by exploring the role of filmmaker and the process of filmmaking. You
will work across roles and gain experience to frame your understanding of the production
process. Films are produced in small teams, and as a class, we watch our work in regular
screenings with discussions.

Year Two – You will start to specialise and focus on specific production areas, forming more
specialist production teams to support complete production cycles each semester. You will
produce a wide and varied body of work across different disciplines, including fiction,
documentary, and advertising.
Year Three – You consolidate the practices of the previous two years, with a focus on
industry practice and the specialisation of skills. You will work on larger scale productions
during this year and collaborate across a production team, but also across multi-disciplinary
teams. In addition, you will prepare an impressive portfolio of your work, methods of
distribution, screenings, and workshops to support your successful transition into this exciting
industry.

Course Content:
Level 4: Tell a Story
In this module, you will define your creative purpose through the development of a short
form piece of work that identifies and connects with the target audience. Learn the basics of
content, media, and film production to create a coherent narrative using a range of production
techniques and technical skills. Experiment with your learning to create a coherent
production, finding an audience to tell a story that meets the brief set by Twitter.
Change Hearts
Use the power of storytelling to trigger an emotive response or ‘change of heart’ from the
audience through social impact filmmaking. You will learn to create documentary and factual
content, to work with subjects, people, clients, and to observe, capture, and edit material to
support its’ emotional power. Incorporate your learning into the creating of content which
shows a demonstrable change in opinion.
Level 5: Entertain Me
You will develop an understanding of the core concepts of fiction storytelling, and appreciate
the audience’s relationship with film and television through the production of a short film,
TV pilot, or feature film trailer. Learn about audience and market dynamics of the industry,
and how to work within the world of fiction by creating an excerpt or pilot for a feature film,
television pilot episode, or short film.
Change Minds
In this module, you will be tasked to inspire an audience to make a choice or change their
behaviour through a piece of advertising or branded content in response to an industry client
brief. Learn how creative agencies and producers engage with clients to create content that
will affect opinion, build brands, and change behaviour, as well as learning to write, direct,
shoot, and edit for relevant formats.
Level 6: Becoming Influential
Employ engaging storytelling techniques, and use evolving new media technologies to create
an online brand that garners a loyal following. Learn the business dynamics involved in

building a real presence in the digital space, engaging with both new and emergent
innovations in audience engagement, and developing your skills in creating content with the
capacity to build a loyal audience.
Be an Entrepreneur
In this module, you will incorporate your previous learning into a self-defined graduation
project that develops your skills and showcases your talent in one of six specified areas.
Develop your knowledge, skills, and understanding in your chosen area, research and
discover new techniques or technological methods to create film or content, and learn
entrepreneurship and business skills to raise funding.
