UK OBSERVATIONS – THINGS ARE IMPROVING BUT….
LAGGING BEHIND OTHER INDUSTRIES IN ADOPTING TECHNOLOGY ?
UK IS LESS GLOBAL IN ITS THINKING ?
STRONG SILO CULTURE – INTEGRATION IS TOO HARD – ADDICTED TO EXCEL ?
PROCESSES STILL DOMINATED BY TRADITIONAL QS PROCESSES ?
RESISTANCE TO CHANGE – STRONG FINANCE AND COMMERCIAL DOMINANCE ?
PLANNING VERY RARELY INTEGRATED ?
TRADITIONAL CONSTRUCTION METHODS STILL DOMINATE ?
PROPER BIM ADOPTION STILL LOW ?

Exploiting technology to leverage greater working efficiencies.
Adopting/redefining working processes that reduce waste and eliminate/reduce non value adding tasks and functions .
Classifying, Structuring and sharing useful information and data.
Collaboration across all disciplines.
Creating a single, repository or master source of data.
Starting out with the end in mind…
Smarter way of Working
Imagine yourself in the vast woods of Sweden. Sweden is a sparsely populated country. With only 21 people per square kilometer, and the vast majority living in the larger cities, getting power to rural areas can be difficult and expensive. Therefore, aerial power lines through forested areas have been the norm for the past century.
While aerial power lines are easier for suppliers to run and more cost-effective to build, they are exposed and vulnerable to severe weather

So how do we identify the source of the disruption quickly, safely and in the most cost-effective way as possible? That’s where drone technology comes in. Rather than inspecting the lines using a limited number of expensive helicopters, they can instead send a larger number of less expensive drones from a remote location or control center.
If service is interrupted by unexpected outages or downed power lines, suppliers must work quickly to restore power.
So how do we identify the source of the disruption quickly, safely and in the most cost-effective way as possible? That’s where drone technology comes in. Rather than inspecting the lines using a limited number of expensive helicopters, they can instead send a larger number of less expensive drones from a remote location or control center.
And it’s easy to see the added value of this. However, at IFS we took it a step further. IFS Labs has build a prototype where the actual imagery of the drone gets processed, in real-time, by computer image processing, and through the IFS IoT Business Connector gets fed into IFS Applications, where a work order gets created. Automatically and in the most optimized manner scheduled to the field engineer.
