3. INTRODUCTION :
⢠Many addictive drugs can cause problems in the reproductive
system and its related fertility cycle of both males and females.
⢠One of the most common addiction which is considered here is
alcohol.
4. ADDICTION :
Addiction is a brain disorder characterised by compulsive engagement in
rewarding stimuli, despite adverse consequences.
E.g. Morphine
Cocaine
Alcohol
Cigarette etc
5. INFERTILITY
⢠Defined as a failure to conceive within one or more years of regular
unprotected sex.
⢠Primary infertility â Who have never conceived.
⢠Secondary infertility â Indicates previous pregnancy
but failure to conceive subsequently.

ĂBoth Ayurvedic and Modern medicine has clearly indicated the
role of Addiction in infertility.
ĂIn Ayurveda role of alcohol addiction in infertility is given in the
concept of madatyaya and also in dushi visha.
ĂMadatyaya - Vishada guna of madya results in Shukra kshaya.
ĂThus while treating infertility addiction should be kept in
consideration.
