(GHBPs) GHBP-
Growth Hormone-

As GHBPs-
hormônio de crescimento (GH-growth hormone), o fator de crescimento
insulina símile-I (IGF-I, insulin-like growth factor-I) e uma enorme

YES GROWTH: GH binding protein (GHBPs) GHBP-Growth Hormone-
Binding Protein (Binding Protein of Growth Hormone) is present in the
blood of various species and by complexation with circulating GH-growth
hormone may alter its clearance and distribution. The actions of GHBP-
Growth Hormone-Binding Protein human (hGHBP) have so far been
studied indirectly, through their effects on the release hGH. The
complexation reactions are those in which complexes are formed and are
part of complexometry. This is the use in analytical chemistry, chelating
agents or ligands, generally organic that coordinate to a metal ion through
two or more atoms electronic donors. They are useful chelating agents
such as aminopolycarboxylic acids, for example, etilenodiaminotetracético
acids (EDTA) and hydroxy acids such as citric and tartaric acids. The
GHBPs-Growth Hormone-Binding Protein includes a GHBP-Growth
Hormone-Binding Protein with high affinity (corresponding to the
extracellular portion of the GH-growth hormone formed by cleavage
4. proteolytic) and a sort of low affinity. Determinations of serum
concentrations of GHBP-Growth Hormone-Binding Protein with high
affinity provide an index of concentrations of GH receptor-growth
hormone. For example, individuals with Laron dwarfism, a form of
insensitivity to GH-growth hormone characterized by mutations in the GH
receptor-growth hormone, usually have GHBP levels-Growth Hormone-
Binding Protein abnormally low.
The Growth hormone (GH-growth hormone), the insulin-like growth
factor-I (IGF-I, insulin-like growth factor-I) and a huge variety of related
molecules form a regulatory axis
of pre and postnatal growth.
The advances in molecular
biology techniques have
facilitated the identification of
genetic defects in different
components of the GH-IGF-I axis
in children with short stature.
Moreover, the application of
new methods of hormonal
assays have revealed the
existence of inactive forms of GH or increased amounts of forms with
lower biological activity, whose presence in the circulation may explain
growth retardation in some children with short stature. Clinically, the
genetic GH-IGF-I axis defects can manifest both in deficiency syndromes as
hormone resistance, emphasizing the importance of evaluating not only
GH secretion in a child, infant and youth with short stature, but also
peripheral markers a possible tissue resistance to the hormone.
