National Festival of Exercise Movement & Dance 2014 â
âMove to the Rhythm!â
2pm, 5th July 2014 â Birmingham Symphony Hall
Our KFA National Festival â âMove to the Rhythmâ was held at Birmingham Symphony Hall on 5 July, and was a day to remember.
It was our first time at this wonderful venue, and feedback from the event has been overwhelmingly positive.
One spectator commented ââwe have found a new home for our festivalâ.
All of the producers, performers and spectators had same thought as Lynne Casey, our Show Producer and the rest of brilliant Working Party when they first saw venue - âWOW!â.
The show itself was slick and professional, and Lynne was thrilled that all of the Producers embraced the showâs theme wholeheartedly, giving us a show of varying rhythms and colour. From the opening item to our wonderful and very lively finale, our performers from the youngest Youth Moves through to Young Adults and our more mature, plus fantastic guest items from Medau, Fitness League, Just Jhoom and of course the fantastic Wheelchair Dance Sport, delighted the audience. Our lovely announcer, Jane Duncan, kept the show together in her own inimitable fashion and dulcet tones.
Birmingham Symphony Hall staff were excellent, and nothing was too much trouble. Our photographer, Chris Christodoulou ,and Stuart Hall, on DVD provided some lovely images for you to enjoy â you can order from their websites (photochris.co.uk and www.digitalvideodvd.com).
Everyone who made a weekend of it in Birmingham loved the atmosphere, hotels, nightlife and shopping.
Add to this the fact that our Chair, Grace Beckett was able present a cheque for over
ÂŁ13, 500, and you have a very memorable event that we hope to better if that is possible in 2016 and 2018!!
âOneâ Just canât stop the beat
(Lynneâs show-closing item)
Hats Off! and Farewell till the next time!

NATIONAL FESTIVAL âMOVE TO THE RHYTHMâ â 5TH JULY 2014
A fantastic day! North East Junior Youth Moves and Young Adults were a huge credit to Janet, Christine and the North East. Both teams worked extremely hard in rehearsals leading up to the big day. We are so proud of all the girls for their commitment and dedication, and are very proud to have been part of the National Festival Dance Show Spectacular 2014. Many thanks go to chaperones and parents for their continued support and help on the day. We all have great memories to cherish!!
THRILLED TO BE ASKED !!!
Janet and her Youth Moves Team were thrilled to have been asked by South West Region perform at their AGM in March 2015, and it would have been fantastic to able attend the event "fly the banner" for North East Region Youth Moves. However, it would have involved staying a full weekend, and not feasible for them at the moment. (Maybe next time .....)
FUNDRAISING
A race night at CLS cricket club and bag pack Asda Washington proved a great success. From this, Janet purchased costumes and team hoodies. The funds left will go towards for Youth Moves Extravaganza on 17th November. Young Adults raised money from running the Parish Centre Coffee Shop, raffle and regular bonus ball. These events will be repeated next year.

Sunday 7th September 2014
Bishops Suite, Ramside Hall, Durham
With a Designer Couture theme, our ladies turned out in style, browsed the stalls, were entertained by favourite Dan James, and brought purchased elegant scarves.
Surely all that deserved a treat from the gorgeous (but light!) cake stall?
Thank you Christine for organising the event !

What an activity-packed few months it has been!
Firstly, thank you to all teachers and participants of our Summer Classes. You made them special once again.
The beginning of September found us once again at Darlington Civic Theatre the Dance Festival Show. As the theme this year was âA Night at Moviesâ, we chose music from âChocolatâ and performed a âdance dramaâ, telling the story of Vianne making ready and opening her chocolate shop, and inviting customers to try the delicious delicacies.
The last glimpses of Summer, and the onset of Autumn, found us taking an enjoyable 5- mile walk to Ketton Packhorse Bridge and Barmpton Village
And weâre just recovering from our super 1940s Themed Supper and Dance. Entertained by Janie St John, singing wartime favourites, we performed a group dance, before everyone took to the floor and had fantastic time. We were able to make a donation the Darlington Branch of the Royal British Legion. Thank you to all who came and supported the event!

Pink Workout Our Pink Workout was a huge success. Over 40 attended, and we raised over ÂŁ400 for Breast Cancer. We had two fantastic sessions led by Lesley Colwill and Sharon Batty. There was a definite Buzz and everyone had a great time whilst raising money for an excellent cause. Best Wishes Christine x Beating Bowel Cancer Fundraiser I held a fund raising evening last night (Friday 8th August) for the charity 'Beating Bowel Cancer.' The weather turned really nasty just before we were about to start which may have put some people off. However, we had a good night with Wendy, Sheila, Brenda and myself each taking a short session, and we have managed to raise ÂŁ180 for the cause. Thank you to all the keep fitters who supported me. Middlesbrough KFA celebrated their 55th Anniversary with a lunch, on Saturday 11 October 2014, at the Masonic Hall, Middlesbrough. It was attended by about 60 past and present members, and it was a lovely reminder of the bygone years. Pictured is Pat Fulton, President, cutting the anniversary cake. Margaret Hutchinson Tel. (01642) 650317 margaret.hutchinson4@ntlworld.com June Drake It is with great sadness that I am writing this short piece. June died suddenly from an aneurism on Monday 13th October, leaving her family, friends and class members in a state of shock and disbelief. I was with June the day before she died. She came along to be a guinea pig for our trainee trainers, and participated fully in all the sessions. As usual, we had fun, and she came armed with a super chocolate cake to sustain us all. June had been attending my class out here in Helmsley since I set up in 2006 and went on to successfully complete her teacher training a few years ago and had set up her own classes which were just beginning to get really established. She had been in several Panorama teams, and we always had great fun discussing rehearsals and trying to remember the moves and what came next. The journeys certainly seemed to be shorter when we travelled together; we were always thinking about keep fit, talking about how we could market our classes etc. I will certainly miss June on a personal level, and I think the Association will have lost so much, too â a caring and professional teacher. I will remember her for her warmth, sense of fun, care for others and sincere belief in the way in which we planned and delivered our classes. In my Helmsley class there will always be a large gap which June just filled. Tonia Gabriel l June rehearsing Toniaâs 2014 National Festival item âSpellboundâ at Gilesgate. Sunderland branch has had a busy time over the Summer, We have had 2 summer classes for members and friends; one was a super workout with Lisa Clarke (always a great class) and another one with Hoola Hoops... that was a hoot! - didn't know you could get to move so much with the hoops!! We also had a summer walk around the Hetton Lakes area. This was a great trip out to an area we hadn't seen before and then a meal at Houghton Golf Club. We have also visited Sunderland Empire for the Lion King. Wow that was very entertaining. On 29 October we hada Pink Night in aid of Breast Cancer Research at St John's Church, Asbrooke. We have a number of events lined up for the next few weeks. We are having a coffee morning evening on 7 November from 7pm at St Gabriels Church in aid of City Dance Championship / Relapsing Polychondritis tickets - members ÂŁ4.50, non-members ÂŁ5.00, from Lynne Casey. On 22 November we are holding our branch AGM and workout with Nicola Pilmoor at St Gabriels Church 1.30pm. Tickets available for the workout from Carol Yeomans.
