Youth & Teen Programs Free, Drop-In After-school Programs provide an educational and fun opportunities for children 6-12 years of age. Equinox Teen Dance Parties for Teens Sports Programs - A variety of sports leagues and drop-in programs are offered. Drop-in basketball, drop-in volleyball, tennis lessons, Kids Love Soccer, aquatics programs, and sports leagues.
Cruise Night is traditionally held on the third Saturday of July from 5:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. The event is traditionally located on Brand Boulevard where over 35,000 spectators attend the event annually. Last year’s entertainers included Sha Na Na, the Jan & Dean Show, the Four Preps, and our special guest judge was Pat Boone. Approximately 400 classic car (pre-1973) owners participate in the event annually. Some owners come from as far away as San Diego, Palm Springs, and Santa Barbara. Cruise Night has been distinguished as producing the “largest draw” of individuals to the Downtown Area and the largest “one-day sales/revenue” for our Downtown Merchants.
Our summer movies, concerts and theatre in the park program are part of our Movies, Music and More Summer Event Series. All of these events are provided free to the public through the generous donors and sponsors.
Special Events Halloween Events at three of our Community Centers Winter Wonderland Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony on the City Hall Campus Annual Easter Eggstravaganza – Easter Egg Hunt in Verdugo Park Santa in the Parks The majority of these events are free to the public.
The city offers a variety of day camp options throughout the city. This year we are offering a new Kinder Camp (4-5 yr olds) and a Traveling Teen Camp. These options range in price from $35 per week - $195 per week. Some camps have extended hours to meet the needs of working parents. Some camps are tailored for younger children. And, some camps provide swimming and field trip options. This way parents can decide which program experience meets their needs individually.
The Summer Aquatics Program is held at our three local high school pool facilities during the traditional “summer break”. Staff members provided a variety of scheduled activities, including: recreational swimming instructional lessons a community swim team community water polo team a junior lifeguard academy special events at each pool location In addition, the city’s wading pools offer relief from the heat in five neighborhood parks throughout the City of Glendale and are available for private rentals. Contract Classes - We offer a number of classes, clinics, and workshops for all ages and interests. These include a variety of arts, crafts, or music classes to cultivate creativity. Classes are offered during all four seasons.
Therapeutic Recreation - Offers programs that are specifically designed for adults with disabilities. Groups are usually small and the participant-to-staff ratio is appropriate to the needs of the group. The activities are planned to meet the interests of the participants and can be individualized. Therapeutic Recreation is comprised of three core programs: Club Maple provides positive and healthy recreation, socialization, and educational opportunities that are appropriate to age and skill levels of participants. Club Maple has a membership of over 90 individuals, with 40 participating weekly. The “Get Fit” Program is a nutrition and fitness program held weekly at Pacific Community Center. Club Pacific has a membership of 20 individuals. Monthly Excursions are offered free to participants who are enrolled in Club Maple or Club Pacific. An average of 28 individuals participate in the monthly excursions.
Senior Programs - Older, active adults are invited to enjoy meaningful personal and group activities offered at a variety of recreation center locations. These activities include: Holiday parties, special events, classes, and excursions.
Youth & Family Services - The Youth & Family Services Program is designed to provide outreach, information and referral services, and case management to at-risk youth and their families. The program supports the family unit by providing guidance in decision-making and by linking individuals with supportive services in the community. Annually, the Youth & Family Services program manages approximately 50 complex cases involving youth in the juvenile justice system and provides over 400 referrals to vital social services in the community. Senior Services The Congregate Meals Program is funded through the Los Angeles County Area Agency on Aging and in part by the Older American Act of 1965. Adults 60 years of age or older and their spouses (regardless of age) are eligible for meals. All of our sites provide a hot meal, a chance to make new friends, special events, and a chance to participate in other activities in a restaurant style atmosphere. Annually, the Congregate Meals program provides services to approximately 600 individuals who receive a combined total of over 39,000 meals. The Home Delivered Meals Program is designed to provide healthy meals to home-bound and /or bedridden seniors. The Home Delivered Meals Program provides services to approximately 200 individuals who receive a combined total of over 13,000 meals. Integrated Care Management is for individuals 60 years of age and older and disabled adults. It is designed to meet the special needs of frail individuals who may be experiencing difficulty in maintaining an independent living arrangement. Annually, the Senior Services program provides services to 180 individuals.
