Deadline Date: November 22, 2015 for announcement of ‘Arctic Lights’
Nov. 18 - MOORPARK, CA. America’s Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College will
be hosting its sixth annual fundraising event, Arctic Lights, on Saturday, Dec. 19 and
Sunday, Dec. 20. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on both days. Guests can
expect snow, arts and crafts, decorations; and animal shows happening all weekend
long. It’s a great experience for the families of Ventura County to enjoy the holiday
season.
“The entire community can benefit from attending this event. Whether you
like animals, snow, baked goods and lots and lots of holiday lights and decorations,”
said Mara Rodriguez, Zoo Operations Staff at America’s Teaching Zoo. “Come out and
enjoy the holiday season with real snow and all of our furry friends”
Arctic Lights starts at 11 a.m., Saturday morning. Guests can guy tickets at the
gate for $8 for adults, $6 for children (2-12) and seniors (65+). Kids 2 and under are
FREE. This event is family oriented and will have a lot of activities for children.
America’s Teaching Zoo is using this fundraiser event to help raise money for
Polar Bears International, a foundation for polar bear conservation. The zoo wants
to help people understand polar bears’ hardships in the wild.
“We help raise awareness and draw attention to the difficulties polar bears
are having living in our current natural environment,” said Rodriguez. We set up a
booth to educate people about this and asks for donations.”
All the proceeds from this event go towards elevating the lives of the animals
of America's Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College, and a portion goes to Polar Bear
International.
The Moorpark College Exotic Animal Training and Management (EATM)
program is devoted to preparing students for a mixture of careers in the animal care
industry, in wildlife education and conservation, as well as the use of animals in
various entertainment fields. America's Teaching Zoo also supports the local
community as a resource for recreation and education. Thousands of children and
other community members have passed through its gates during its 41-year history
to learn about animals and nurture respect in caring for them.
