2. What is the Medal of Honor?
The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy
force which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of
the United States. Generally presented to its recipient by the President of the
United States of America in the name of Congress.
What are the three guidelines to be awarded the
Medal of Honor?
1) while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States;
2) while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing
foreign force; or,
3) while serving with friendly forces engaged in armed conflict against an
opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party.

creating it?
It was created on July 12, 1862. President Lincoln signed the bill and the
(Navy) Medal of Honor was born.

ship was out of danger.

and selfless conduct in the face of almost certain death, he saved the
lives of 4 men.
