Aug 2014 to Rex Energy Corporation Cranberry, PA - Drilling Director
Feb 2015 Provided Direction for the Company's Program with 3 rigs and sometimes a Top Hole Rig
Operating Simultaneously to achieve the objectives of the Marcellus and Utica Drilling
Program. Company's Program Plans dropped to one rig running throughout 2015 and 2016
with drop in the oil/gas prices along with a Reduction in Force Eliminating my Position. The
Time/Cost required to drill these shale wells had decreased 10 percent over this timeframe.
March 2013 to Venoco Inc. (SoCal Division) - Drilling Manager - Carpinteria, California
Aug 2014: Supervised three Drilling Engineers, one Contract Engineer, one Superintendent, eight Well
Site supervisors, and one drilling technician with responsibilities including maintenance &
modifications to company’s 2 offshore rigs for drilling, completion & work-over activities &
contracting a land rig for Montalvo deep drilling program. Well types included extended
horizontal reach (Monterey) for offshore and deep directional for onshore development.
Held accountable for all difficult drilling decisions. Prepared company’s annual drilling
budget and accountable for monitoring and meeting budget goals. Introduced new drilling
technologies to optimize performance and meet drilling cost targets in Montalvo Field.
Sept 2011 to Encana Oil & Gas (MCU Division) - Drilling Advisor - Dallas, Texas
March 2013: Prepared Drilling Programs & Managed Drilling Operations for Long Horizontal Gas
Wells in abnormally pressured Bossier Shale Formation (La.) & normal pressured
Eagleford Shale in East TX. Responsibilities included 7/24 surveillance (Remote Link after
normal business hours). Worked with Completion Dept. to run Different Production
Accessories to enhance fracture initiation. Left when obvious Dallas division was closing.
July 2005 to XTO Energy, Inc – San Juan Division Drilling Manager – Farmington, NM
Sept 2011 Managed drilling operations in three states (rig count as high as 8 – 11 rigs)and ~600
Wells drilled over a year period (CBM wells drilled in the Raton, San Juan, and Uintah
Basins of which ~30 were horizontal & 30 ‘S’ type directional). Integrated Dominion’s
N. Buttes Drilling Program into XTO’s (assumed drilling management) after the acquisition
08/01/97. I championed drilling of the first deep Mancos Shale Horizontal well in the
Uintah Basin (18500’) including final well design & completion assistance. I was responsible
for XTO’s Exploratory Drilling (tight gas- 15000’– 6 wells) in the Piceance Basin (CO) and
9000’wells in Barker Dome (H2S area in NM). Managed 8 direct reports prior to rig count
reduction. At time of XTO acquisition by Exxon-Mobile, served as special advisor for XOM
Barito Basin CBM Drilling Operations prior to spud for 22 days (JKT, Indonesia).
April 2004 to Forest Oil – Workover and Completion Specialist – Denver, Colorado
July 2005: I directed offshore platform (Eugene Island) & inland barge (White Lake) completions,
work-over projects. After 6 mo’s, Handled Drilling for La & TX High Pressure (Calcasieu
Parish, LA & Duval County, TX) on a 7/24 basis). I was responsible for all operational
decisions. I supervised well site consultants & selected Vendors & Completion/Drilling Rigs.
Designed Katy Field Deepening Project and presented to partner, Exxon-Mobil.
Jan 2000 to Nuevo Energy & Torch Co’s – Engineering Operations Team Leader-Bakersfield, CA
April 2004: I started with Torch (operator for Nuevo) as drilling engineer for California offshore & land
drilling operations. As Torch contract ended, joined Nuevo – eventually promoted to
Division Operations Engineer. I managed 5 engineers, a technician, and 9-10 well site
foremen. Provided direction for all drilling, completion, & work-over activities for
offshore/land. I handled the scheduling of rigs and supervision of personnel. I also ensured
total capital and expense budget plans were completed on time within cost limits for 300 well
projects within a budget of $33 million. I was responsible for staff training, the maintenance
budget for the company owned 9 offshore rigs,and any production shortfalls (including
steam flood fields - Bakersfield which accounted for 85% of company’s total production).
June 98 to Halliburton Energy Services – Sr Project Engineer – New Orleans, Louisiana
January 2000: Worked for Chevron as in-house drilling advisor desk engineer for the Genesis Deepwater
Project. I traveled to RUSSIA with a Feasibility Team (Drilling Advisor) and reviewed US
EXIM $250 mm loan for company participation (Samatlor Field). Spent 30 days in Jakarta
Indonesia designing well parameters and soliciting tender bids for a horizontal well project.
1994-1998: BHM ENGINEERING COMPANY - OWNER - HOUSTON, TEXAS
 Consultant for Aviara Energy Corp (Ed Ferguson for one year) providing
Offshore Drilling Engineering Planning for a 10 well program (3 platforms)
with water depths 150-225’(Jack-Ups). All wells reached TD without incident.
 Consulting Superintendent (8 mos) for Torch Operating Co. Prepared Drilling
Programs, Selected Drilling Rigs and 3rd Party Vendors in addition to
Supervising Drilling Operations in Ms, La, and offshore CA for one year. CA
wells were Extended Reach (+ 11000’lateral departure) wells in the Monterey
Chalk. I directed drilling operations for an inland water project with 15.5 ppg
sharp transition zones on the flank of a salt dome. All wells reached targeted
objectives without blowouts or serious injury.
 Technical Drilling Advisor for the World Bank for a $180mm loan to a
RUSSIAN OIL & GAS Production Association in Western Siberia for 1-1/2
years. Duties included engineering surveillance at the well site for Russian
Oilfield Rehabilitation efforts.
 Supervised and Designed Drilling, Completion, and Work-Over Projects in the
offshore Gulf of Mexico for major and independent O & G companies.
1991-1994: VICO & OTHER INDONESIA BASED COMPANIES – Advising Engineer & Consultant
 Assignments based in Balikpapan (2 yrs) and Jakarta, Indonesia (6 mos).
 Designed Completion Procedures for deep (17,750’) high temperature (370o F)
gas wells requiring 18.8 ppg mud densities. Designed TCP and underbalanced
CTU operations to initiate well flow. I also designed drilling programs for
VICO’s exploratory program. Periodically provided engineering surveillance at
the well site. I was responsible for the tender, evaluation, and award process for
equipment procurement to support program.
 Six month project in Jakarta (Asamera Oil Co.) for the evaluation of the Kuala
Langsa gas discovery for commerciality & development. This study included the
review of exotic tubular options for high CO2 & H2S gas content. I analyzed
cost/time requirements for field development in conjunction with a process
engineer. Duties included preparation and presentation of a final report for the
Japanese partners & Indonesian government.
1985-1991: BHM ENGINEERING COMPANY - OWNER - HOUSTON, TEXAS
 Managed drilling, completion, & acid fracture operations along with facility
construction and field gathering lines for 2 -11000’Wilcox wells (Consolidated
Southern Resources in Wharton County, TX).
 Prepared Drilling and Open Hole DST Design and provided supervision at the
site for Global Natural Resources in Duval County, Texas.
 Managed O & G producing properties in Kan., Okla, & TX (one year) for the
Royal Bank of Canada. Prepared for sale (properties liquidated by the bank).
 Managed gas & oil production (Hockley County, TX)-group of private investors
 Provided Expert Witness Testimony for Fortune 500 O & G company through
Dames & Moore, Ltd in a bad faith pooling claim (South TX - Fina Oil & Gas)
 Designed & Managed Construction of a Deep Class I Hazardous Waste
injection well for Envirocorp in Marshall, Texas (Witco Chemical). Project
included the use of fiberglass tubulars & exotic metallurgical well components.
1982-1984 TEXAS EASTERN EXPLORATION CORP. – SR. STAFF ENGINEER – HOUSTON, TX.
 Designed Drilling/Completion Programs - areas covered TX, Mississippi, & CA
 Managed TEEC’s first deep well construction project utilizing an air drilling
medium in Madisonville, TX (Glen Rose) including Casing Acid Fracturing, &
Production Facilities Design. Also Designed Drilling programs and Supervised
Drilling at the site for Frio Plays in Duval & San Patricio Counties, TX
 Designed/Supervised at the Site the Drilling of Black Warrior Basin CBM Well
 Was involved initially with monitoring the company’s Outside Operated
Drilling Operations in the British Sector of the North Sea.
1981-1982 LEAR PETROLEUM EXPLORATION-Division Drlg. Engr. - THE WOODLANDS, TX
 Directed the Company’s Gulf Coast Drilling Program for onshore properties in
La. and TX. Normal Workload was 2-3 rigs for 15,000’abnormal pressured
wells in the Sour Lake area. Directed the work activities and was on call 7/24
with the site consultants. Special CTU fishing project was assignedto me.
 Gulf Coast Division Drilling Activities halted in 1982
1980 – 1981 CONOCO – Drilling Engineer headquartered out of the PES Group – HOUSTON, TX
 Provided Site Supervision for various US Land & Offshore divisions located in
WY, ND, Okla, La, and TX for drilling, completion, and snubbing operations.
1976 – 1980 PENNZOIL OIL CORPORATION (Houston Marine Division) HOUSTON, TX
 Provided well site supervision in offshore Gulf of Mexico for Development and
Exploratory Drilling, Completion, and Work-over operations. Involved in some
of the initial gravel pack work performed in the Gulf of Mexico (High Island).
 One year stint -Brazil– Engineering Support for Deepwater Semi-Submersible

I was responsible for staff training, the maintenance budget for the company owned 9 offshore rigs,and any production shortfalls (including steam flood fields - Bakersfield which accounted for 85% of company’s total production). June 98 to Halliburton Energy Services – Sr Project Engineer – New Orleans, Louisiana January 2000: Worked for Chevron as in-house drilling advisor desk engineer for the Genesis Deepwater Project. I traveled to RUSSIA with a Feasibility Team (Drilling Advisor) and reviewed US EXIM $250 mm loan for company participation (Samatlor Field). Spent 30 days in Jakarta Indonesia designing well parameters and soliciting tender bids for a horizontal well project. 1994-1998: BHM ENGINEERING COMPANY - OWNER - HOUSTON, TEXAS  Consultant for Aviara Energy Corp (Ed Ferguson for one year) providing Offshore Drilling Engineering Planning for a 10 well program (3 platforms) with water depths 150-225’(Jack-Ups). All wells reached TD without incident.  Consulting Superintendent (8 mos) for Torch Operating Co. Prepared Drilling Programs, Selected Drilling Rigs and 3rd Party Vendors in addition to Supervising Drilling Operations in Ms, La, and offshore CA for one year. CA wells were Extended Reach (+ 11000’lateral departure) wells in the Monterey Chalk. I directed drilling operations for an inland water project with 15.5 ppg sharp transition zones on the flank of a salt dome. All wells reached targeted objectives without blowouts or serious injury.  Technical Drilling Advisor for the World Bank for a $180mm loan to a RUSSIAN OIL & GAS Production Association in Western Siberia for 1-1/2 years. Duties included engineering surveillance at the well site for Russian Oilfield Rehabilitation efforts.  Supervised and Designed Drilling, Completion, and Work-Over Projects in the offshore Gulf of Mexico for major and independent O & G companies. 1991-1994: VICO & OTHER INDONESIA BASED COMPANIES – Advising Engineer & Consultant  Assignments based in Balikpapan (2 yrs) and Jakarta, Indonesia (6 mos).  Designed Completion Procedures for deep (17,750’) high temperature (370o F) gas wells requiring 18.8 ppg mud densities. Designed TCP and underbalanced CTU operations to initiate well flow. I also designed drilling programs for VICO’s exploratory program. Periodically provided engineering surveillance at the well site. I was responsible for the tender, evaluation, and award process for equipment procurement to support program.
  • 3.  Six month project in Jakarta (Asamera Oil Co.) for the evaluation of the Kuala Langsa gas discovery for commerciality & development. This study included the review of exotic tubular options for high CO2 & H2S gas content. I analyzed cost/time requirements for field development in conjunction with a process engineer. Duties included preparation and presentation of a final report for the Japanese partners & Indonesian government. 1985-1991: BHM ENGINEERING COMPANY - OWNER - HOUSTON, TEXAS  Managed drilling, completion, & acid fracture operations along with facility construction and field gathering lines for 2 -11000’Wilcox wells (Consolidated Southern Resources in Wharton County, TX).  Prepared Drilling and Open Hole DST Design and provided supervision at the site for Global Natural Resources in Duval County, Texas.  Managed O & G producing properties in Kan., Okla, & TX (one year) for the Royal Bank of Canada. Prepared for sale (properties liquidated by the bank).  Managed gas & oil production (Hockley County, TX)-group of private investors  Provided Expert Witness Testimony for Fortune 500 O & G company through Dames & Moore, Ltd in a bad faith pooling claim (South TX - Fina Oil & Gas)  Designed & Managed Construction of a Deep Class I Hazardous Waste injection well for Envirocorp in Marshall, Texas (Witco Chemical). Project included the use of fiberglass tubulars & exotic metallurgical well components. 1982-1984 TEXAS EASTERN EXPLORATION CORP. – SR. STAFF ENGINEER – HOUSTON, TX.  Designed Drilling/Completion Programs - areas covered TX, Mississippi, & CA  Managed TEEC’s first deep well construction project utilizing an air drilling medium in Madisonville, TX (Glen Rose) including Casing Acid Fracturing, & Production Facilities Design. Also Designed Drilling programs and Supervised Drilling at the site for Frio Plays in Duval & San Patricio Counties, TX  Designed/Supervised at the Site the Drilling of Black Warrior Basin CBM Well  Was involved initially with monitoring the company’s Outside Operated Drilling Operations in the British Sector of the North Sea. 1981-1982 LEAR PETROLEUM EXPLORATION-Division Drlg. Engr. - THE WOODLANDS, TX  Directed the Company’s Gulf Coast Drilling Program for onshore properties in La. and TX. Normal Workload was 2-3 rigs for 15,000’abnormal pressured wells in the Sour Lake area. Directed the work activities and was on call 7/24 with the site consultants. Special CTU fishing project was assignedto me.  Gulf Coast Division Drilling Activities halted in 1982 1980 – 1981 CONOCO – Drilling Engineer headquartered out of the PES Group – HOUSTON, TX  Provided Site Supervision for various US Land & Offshore divisions located in WY, ND, Okla, La, and TX for drilling, completion, and snubbing operations. 1976 – 1980 PENNZOIL OIL CORPORATION (Houston Marine Division) HOUSTON, TX  Provided well site supervision in offshore Gulf of Mexico for Development and Exploratory Drilling, Completion, and Work-over operations. Involved in some of the initial gravel pack work performed in the Gulf of Mexico (High Island).  One year stint -Brazil– Engineering Support for Deepwater Semi-Submersible Publications: Co-Authored (with 6 others) OTC Paper on the Chevron Genesis SPAR Development (1999)
