7. Bolivar
Square
• Bolivar Plaza is not necessarily the
busiest part of the historic center
anymore, but there is definitely a lot to
see here. At one time, Bolivar Plaza
WAS the place to be in Bogota.
Surrounded by colonial houses, farmers
would bring their produce to sell in the
plaza and under Spanish rule public
punishments WERE dealt in the middle
of the plaza.
8. Gold
Museum
• The exhibitions WERE completely
renovated in 2008, in an enlarged
building with magnificent
architecture. The Gold Museum's
permanent exhibition invites you to
discover the history of how gold
and other metals WERE USED by
the pre-Hispanic societies who
LIVED in the land today known as
Colombia.
9. Casa De La
Moneda
• It WAS FOUNDED in 1621 as
the mint ("casa de moneda"
translates as "mint"). The
current mint is known simply
as the Fábrica de Moneda
(coin factory).
10. Saint Francis
Church
• This church located in the corner of
the intersection of Carrera 7 and
Avenue Jimenez (Calle 13) WAS
BUILT between 1557 and 1621 and it
is one of the oldest colonial
churches in Bogotá. From the
outside it may look rather plain, but
the interior is of great beauty and
richness.
11. La
Candelaria
• "La Candelaria", the historic centre of
Bogota, is very popular because of its
colonial architecture, museums,
picturesque restaurants and bars.
However, few other buildings embody the
spirit of the city’s colonial past as the well
preserved churches that can be found
around this historic neighbourhood, making
them an obligatory stop for any visitor.
