Evaluation question
1. How did you attract/address
your audience?
Brandon Evans
2. Photos
• When I designed my music magazine, I used 4
different photos which made it to my final
magazine. I captured over 100 different
photographs over 3 different photo-shoots. I
had my model wear the same clothes on each
different photo-shoot for continuity. 4 of the
photos of model made it into my final
production.
3. Photos
• In the photos, my models
clothing is a main focus on all
of the photos. This photo
seen on the right is from my
double-page spread, the
image shows my model
wearing a green round neck t-
shirt covered by a grey zip-up
hoodie and a black and dark
grey mock leather jacket.
4. Photos
• Multiple effects have been
added to the image including
adding a drop shadow and
altering the saturation of the
image. I also flipped the
image so that my model
would appear to be facing
one way and so that I would
capture a photo of my model
from a good angle.
5. Photo
• In the photo seen on the left, I
have chosen an image of my
model specifically not smiling,
this was done so that the genre
wouldn’t be mistaken for
anything but rap. The photo
features the same attire seen on
the last photo seen. The
saturation of the photo has only
slightly been tampered with.
6. Photo
• I have not added any
background effects to the
main image, this was done to
make the main image stand
out more. My models pose
and angle of the photo was
chosen so that my model
looked slightly intimidating.
7. Colours
• The colours that I used in
my music magazine cover
have been limited to red
and black aside from the
main photo and the yellow
circle. Red is the colour
associated with blood and it
also looks somewhat
intimidating.
8. Colours
• I have limited the use of
colour to mostly red so that
my front cover doesn’t look
like a rainbow. The colour
scheme used on the cover
also makes the cover look
masculine, this is 100%
intentional.
9. Colours
• On my contents page, I have
used purple for the
masthead, red for decorations
and mostly black for the text.
I have also put it a feint,
purple cloudy texture as a
background. The title has
been chosen to be purple
because it goes well with the
colour red.
10. Colours
• I have also added long, thin
rectangles in red. This was done
to separate the different
sections of my contents page.
The colour red was chosen as it
is distinctive. I have changed 3
of the names of artists listed in
the contents page to different
colours, this has been done to
differentiate their names from
the rest of the text.
11. Colours
• On my double page spread, the colours I have used
are: purple, brown, black and red. The colour red
was used for the titles in which the questions asked
are written. I used this so that the questions would
easily stand out from the answers. I used the colour
brown for the innovative information box seen on
the right of the page.
12. Colours
• I used the colour black for the text and I used the
colour purple for everything else including the title
and the background. I chose these colours
specifically so that they would complement each
other.
13. Fonts
• The font used for my masthead
is called 28 days later and it
looks effective, it is easily
readable and stands out well. I
used the same font for the strip
on names above the masthead.
For the subtitles around the
page I used a font called Burn
out, Fade away. I chose that
font for the same reasons I
chose my title as well as its
informal qualities.
14. Text
• For the body text on this page, I used the font: Charcoal CY.
I used this font because it is easy to read and has a relaxed
aura surrounding it. The font I used for my body text is
excellent as it is completely legible, looks professional and
also has a relaxed feel about it. For the title, I used the 28
days later font that I used on the front cover as it is very
good and there were limited fonts which were ideal for the
job that I needed them for.
15. Layouts
• The layout I used on my Magazine
cover was a traditional design which
features the masthead/title atop the
page where it should be. There is
then a large photo in the centre of
the page and it is surrounded by
subtitles. Above the title is a list of
artists names. This is a creative
design which suits the genre of my
magazine and makes it more
appealing to customers. I also have a
barcode featured in the corner of the
page, this is also a traditional design
used in magazines.
