2. Why is weather an essential part in our music video?
• Getting the weather right is essential when creating our indie music
video due to the fact that if the lighting is too dark, our opening could
be seen as a horror to our potential target audience and therefore
not an indie music video which is reflecting the differences between
day and night.Additionally, if the lighting isn’t quite bright enough it,
our footage won’t have the stereotypical indie connotations which
we’re aiming for. Therefore, we’re planning to film our footage for
our music video at 3:20pm-5:20pm and at 9am-11am in order to
achieve these vast differences in low and high key lighting.Yet, still
considering and researching into the weather forecast for that
particular day in advanced and again on the day we plan to film (to
double check).
3. When are we planning to film our footage?
• We have decided to film our outside footage on bothWednesday 2nd
December at 3:20pm-5:20pm, this is due to the fact that we need the
lighting to be a little bit darker than it would be during the day in order
for it to convey the ‘Midnight’ element we’re aiming to put across to our
target audience. However, we’re also planning to film on Monday 28th
December at 9:00am-11:00am, in order to achieve low key lighting,
which we hope will reflect/connote our artists vibrant character as a
result.
• I have also researched any forecasts for both of these days, from my
findings on BBCWeather both of these days seem to be clear and Sunny,
therefore allowing us to achieve the specific lighting we need in order to
represent a ‘lustful’ indie music video as a result.
4. Example –Weather inThe 1975’s music video ‘Girls’
• A famous line throughout the music video is; ‘Worrying about my brother finding out,
where’s the fun in doing what your told suggests to the audience that while the singer
knows that he is in the wrong and knowing there are people who would look down on
him for what he is doing, he wants to have some fun.
• This supports the stereotype of rock/pop bands who usually aim to be a bit rebellious in
their actions.Via the use of a long shot we then see Laura Mulvey’s theory of the male
gaze being excessively used in the video as we see the entire band have a lightly
dressed equivalent, however you cannot help but feel thatThe 1975 are not using
women in a classically conventional way and they’re almost taking the mick of how
other pop videos show ‘stupid women’ who become exposed for fame and money,
while the band themselves remain in bland black and white clothing.
• By the girls wearing contrasting clothing, from black which connotesWinter and
colourful swimwear which connotes Summer, this may reflectWeather as a whole
throughout their music video suggesting that they have ‘fun’ regardless of the weather
around them.
