2. Applying Todorov’s
Theory- Taken – 8/9/14
• This picture represents Todorov's theory being applied to the film
'Taken'. The writing in each text box relates to the given title of that
text box and I have explored what makes up that certain part of
Todorov's theory.
• This task enabled me to get an idea of each individual stage made
up within films and how they affect the audience's interpretations of
the film.
3. Theories (Claude Levi-Strauss, Roland
Barthes, Propp and Todorov) – 8/9/14
• Today we looked at the theories of Claude Levi-Strauss, Roland
Barthes, Propp and Todorov. From looking at these four different
people and their opinions on what films are made off, I now
understand why certain features go into films and how they are used
for affect.
• Todays lesson will help me when constructing my own film opening as
I can use some of the research found in my opening.
• This task enabled me to learn some key terminology which may be
useful later on throughout the course.
4. Propp’s Character Types –
Batman Begins – 8/9/14
• This picture shows Propp's character types being applied to Batman
Begins, the writing in each text box explains why each character fits
the character name above the text box, covering their role in the film
and their intentions.

• This task enabled me to learn some of the key terminology which
may be useful to use later om throughout the course.
5. Horror Film Connotations
– 8/9/14
• Today I look at lots of different horror connotations in regards to the
character type, props/symbols/objects, settings and music. All of
these offer different connotations and together make up different
parts of the film, while piecing together the plot in the audiences
mind.
• By doing this task I am now understand with all of the horror Mise-En-
Scene terminology which I can now start to use more frequently.

6. Reception Theory – Stuart
Hall 1890 – 8/9/14
• Today I researched into the reception theory by Stuart Hall and found
out that there were, 3 ways of audience readings which were:
• 1) Dominant or Preferred
• 2) Negotiated
• 3) Oppositional
• This task was helpful as I now know the different ways in which an
audience member would read something.
7. Male Gaze Theory –
8/9/14
• Today I researched the male gaze theory by Laura Mulvey and
found out that the camera focuses in on the curves of the female
body in order to attract the main target audience.
• This task was helpful as I now know the different reasons behind the
Male Gaze Theory, which I may be able to use in my own film
opening.
8. Genre Notes – 9/9/14
• Today I looked at Andrew Tudor and the ‘chicken and egg’
dilemma.
• I further developed my understanding on this task my considering
different cultures and why they may think/feel different about certain
stereotypes.
• By doing this task I now understand what different genres consist of
and why different cultures might think differently about
culture signifies whether it is to do with religious/personal views or
opinions.
