There are seven stages of artificial intelligence development: 1) knowledge-based systems, 2) context awareness and pattern recognition, 3) domain-specific expertise, 4) reasoning machines, 5) self-aware general intelligence, 6) artificial superintelligence that exceeds human abilities, and 7) singularity and transcendence through merging with superintelligent AI.
1. What are the seven stages of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Artificial intelligence is a branch of computer science that enables computers to mimic
natural intelligence. There are seven stages of AI, as follows:
1. Knowledge-Based AI - This stage involves the development of expert systems that use
knowledge about specific subject areas to solve problems and make decisions.
2. Context-awareness and retention stage -The context awareness and retention stage of
artificial intelligence is often referred to as pattern recognition. This is where computers
start to learn patterns in data, their use of logic, and knowledge from previous processes.
They also “remember” situations where these patterns have been seen before so that they
can make decisions more easily.
3. Domain-Specific Expertise – Artificial intelligence has evolved to a point where it can
learn, reason, and make decisions based on the data it has access to. In some cases, these
machines have even challenged human experts in their own fields.
4. Reasoning Machines - It’s an algorithm that has a sense of beliefs, intentions, knowledge,
and how its own logic works. This can allow them to reason with humans and other
machines.
5. Self-Aware Systems / Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) - At Such a stage where
systems will be capable of reasoning and learning on their own, without human supervision
or guidance.
6. Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) - Artificial Superintelligence is the notion of developing
artificial agents with capabilities to outperform the smartest of humans in all domains.
2. 7. Singularity and Transcendence - The singularity is the idea that in the near future, there
will be a massive expansion in human capability—possibly enabled by artificial
superintelligence (ASI). By merging with AI, we may become collectively smarter than all the
people who have ever lived. We could even upload our minds and live forever in virtual
reality—and merge with the entirety of our environment.
