z/OS Senior System Programmer: Support, planning and enhancement of 9 z/OS LPARs at 2 sites including:
• Z13 CPU install team player, including installing compatibility prereqs for program products, configuring memory,
logical CPU, LPAR weighting, project communications and cutover support, verification of new capacity and new
capacity monitoring post upgrade.
• Completed “zPCR” (IBM's Processor Capacity Reference) studies for z13 and z196 upgrade planning.
• Initiated test use of “zBNA” (Batch Network Analyzer) as an adjunct tool for performance / capacity investigation.
• Completed z196 End-of-Marketing / Future State presentation. This work was sent up to “C” level executives.

2. • Implemented excel pivot chart views of z/OS system capacity and workloads for a 12 year span, used in peak need
planning and organic growth projections.
• Developed / rolled out automated timed LPAR weight rebalancing to move CPU resources to service high business
importance CPU requirements while containing SW/HW costs.
• Assumed ongoing Performance and Capacity support for z/OS systems (50%+ of time) to backfill for staff reductions
in the Performance and Capacity workgroup.
• Ongoing system tuning: paging design, IEAOPTxx and other PARMLIB settings, system weights and memory
assignments, Logical CPU settings,
• Worked with vendor management team to negotiate reduced license pricing on a mainframe database software set.
Developed special usage reports to meet vendors’ requirements to take advantage of sub-capacity pricing.
o Developed / implemented WLM resource group capping for all workload using this database product set, to enforce
contract-compliant limited of use of this product. Tracked spurious high users of product and assisted in getting them
back in profiled usage levels.
o Provided quarterly reporting to Database vendor to meet sub-cap usage restrictions
• Completed revised Mainframe Technology road map to inform major batch application planning teams of mainframe
hardware strategy and directions.
• Completed JES2 spool optimizations on all systems. Released 3390-27 were returned to Storage Administration, while
simultaneously increasing spool capacity for individual LPARS by 35% or more.
• Completed review of IBM Tivoli System Automation, as a replacement for BMC automation products (with
Automation team)
• Led enablement of Hiperdispatch, and verified benefits in the system performance space.
• Completed re-evaluation of Parallel Sysplex and alternative options for support of new business software suite,
including costs/benefits of coupling facility with DFSMS/Transactional VSAM/Record Level Sharing, as opposed to
HWCS SYSB-II, for record level shares between CICS and BATCH (with CICS Transactional Support team).
• Prepared z/OS Configuration Options presentation and held focus groups to reevaluate the advantages of
implementing true Parallel Sysplex using coupling facility.
• Initiated, completed conversion from HFS to ZFS Unix System Services file systems
• Completed installation of SAS ITRM and specialized SAS 9.x installation in support of SAS ITRM.
• Ran project to reduce “below the line” memory map to allow ongoing growth in system reserved <16MB space. This
required monitoring all address spaces for region settings and actual low storage needs.

• Completed reconfiguration of Global Resource Serialization (GRS) implementations and logical CPU definitions to
reduce contention issues and reduction of the "short engine" effect, making system performance more responsive.
• Completed REXX program set using CA Sysview interfaces, to capture and archive detailed system data. This has
become a primary tool for rapid problem determination.
• Project and technical lead for conversion to 64-bit mode (@OS.390 2.10).
• Install and configure a new software product, Hitachi Business Continuity Manager (replacement for HXRC, req’d for
DDRC remote site support and supported “High Availability” initiatives.

• Replaced CA MICS with a multi-platform install of SAS / SAS ITRM / MXG to support sub-capacity usage reporting
of a non-IBM database product.

MICS was later replaced with SAS & SAS IT Resource Management.
• Upgraded/Configured CA MICS Test and Production environments until mid-2013.

• Upgraded COMPUSET product (used as a batch document preprocessor/formatter to V9.4 for z/OS 1.9 compatibility.
