2. What is Photomontage?
• Photomontage is a collage
technique where two or more
photographs are joined together
to create a new photograph. This
new photograph is called a
composite photograph.

3. How it is done…
• The process involves cutting, tearing, rearranging, overlapping and gluing the
photographs together to create a new image.
• Sometimes the finished image is photographed so that the final image would
appear as a seamless physical print.
• Non-photographic images (such as written text, patterns and shapes) may be
added to add interest to the photomontage.
• Photomontage can be created Manually (by hand) or Digitally using an
electronic device.
*When it is done digitally an appropriate picture editing software must
be used (such as Adobe Photoshop, Photoworks, Corel photopaint,
Paintshop pro, Pixelmator, or GIMP). Others are available.

4. Materials needed
Materials need for a simple photomontage are:
• Magazines
• Newspapers
• Printed photographs
• Picture books
• Scissors
• Glue
• Background paper
• Digital device (lap top, tablet, desk top,
mobile phone)
• Image editing software
• Images (could be captured using device or
downloaded from the www)
• Printer
