Aramark partnered with local supplier Vegadelphia Foods to produce this wheat
protein and soy substitute. It’s available beginning this season at Ashburn Alley’s
Planet Hoagie stand with other meat-free sandwiches and the “any sandwich is a
salad or a wrap” options for Phillies fans. The sandwich version is served
“Philadelphia style,” which is two crabcakes on a hoagie roll. Last season, PETA voted
Citizens Bank Park the most vegetarian-friendly facility in baseball, and “we want to
keep that No. 1 ranking,” said Kevin Tedesco, Aramark’s director of concessions. The
veggie versions will never sell as well as the regular cheesesteaks and hoagies, but
the 100 orders per game are worth the effort, Tedesco said.
