SURVIVING ON MARS (PART 1)
BIG HISTORY PROJECT / LESSON 9.8 ACTIVITY
Purpose
This quick activity will get students brainstorming about life on Mars and what they would need to survive there.
Process
Ask students if they have ever thought about space travel. Would they want to do it? Why or why not? Have a few students share their answers. Then ask if they would ever want
to leave Earth forever to live on another planet like Mars. Let a few students who say yes explain why they would want to live on Mars. Now tell them to imagine that they have been
selected to join a mission to Mars. It will take a year to travel there and they will live there for four years. What do they need to bring with them to the red planet? Have them write
their ideas down on the Surviving on Mars (Part 1) Worksheet.
