Students work in groups, pen articles, and shoot photographs. Then our team of publishing professionals weaves their work into the EdTerra Student Travel Chronicle. Choose Travel Journalists Program to show your students’ analytical and intellectual maturity to the world. This project activity delivers 21st Century Skills.
3. School trips are an incredible opportunity for young minds
that are constantly seeking information, experiences, and
acquiring knowledge. In our experience, when these young
minds go beyond the classroom, they cement and build
upon curricular subjects and lessons. Outdoor learning
helps the students develop a more holistic understanding
of themselves, their skills, their curriculum, and how all this
ultimately relates to the development of the world.
Shiv Nadar School, Gurgaon, is committed to create a vital
link between learning in the classroom, the students’ inner
lives, and the world at large. The pages that follow are
representative of the aim of our institution, which is to take
teaching beyond the walls of the classroom into the freedom
of outward exploration and creativity.
We chose this particular program to Amritsar for its unique
approach to understand the chief historical and cultural
aspects. We visited several places in Amritsar, including
Jallianwala Bagh, Sadda Pind, and the Golden Temple.
Helping us to organise and implement this journey was a
company that specialises in student education travel. EdTerra
Edventures brings over ten years of experience of having
helped over 30,000 students learn from the diversity of our
planet. We are happy to state the success of this collaboration
stemmed from a deep alignment of EdTerra Edventures’
vision with our own. We seek to make our students global
citizens who actively understand and contribute to the United
Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Further, from
EdTerra’s travel curriculum and to develop 21st Century Skills
amongst millennial students, we opted for Student Media
Projects, especially EdTerra’s Travel Journalists Program. This
magazine — Student Travel Chronicle (Amritsar) is a product
of our students’ concerted teamwork to write and collect their
journey experiences and impressions in a comprehensive
manner. We hope you will enjoy reading this Chronicle and
have valuable points to take away from students’ experiences.
Finally, we, at Shiv Nadar School, Gurgaon, would like to
acknowledge our teachers. The success of this journey is only
possible with their responsible and informed efforts. I would
also like to recognise the support and assistance provided by
EdTerra Edventures Pvt. Ltd. in successfully conducting this
program. We also thank our parents, who remain our most
fervent partners and collaborators for the education of all the
students who study and work together.

Our journey to Amritsar and Jalandhar began when all of us assembled in school. As we boarded our buses, there was
immense excitement in the air. After a restless drive, we reached the railway station. After a long, yet fun ride that took
about seven hours, we reached Amritsar. After we settled in our hotel rooms, we left for Sadda Pind. We enjoyed the rides
and the lovely goods we had bought there. After a couple of hours, we had dinner and slept peacefully.
Next day was the most exhausting because we visited Jallianwala Bagh and the Golden Temple. We learnt about the
brutal massacre that took place at Jallianwala Bagh in the early 20th century. After resting for some time at the hotel, we
set off for the War Memorial & Museum. We learnt about the history of Sikh faith. Then, it was time for the most exciting
event — the DJ Night. It was a blast and after having a delicious dinner, all of us went off to sleep.
Next morning, we woke up and left for Jalandhar. We reached Pushpa Gujral Science City. Our visit was a fantastic
learning experience and we learnt about practical application of scientific concepts in the world around us. We clicked
several photographs. Finally, we reached our amazing hotel in Jalandhar. We had blue lagoon as our welcoming drink,
which was quite tasty. Soon, we went to hotel rooms to rest.

Can you imagine a place where you get to learn about the traditional culture of Punjab? If not, then we, the students
of Shiv Nadar School Gurugram, are about to tell you how, at Sadda Pind, the traditional Punjabi culture comes alive.
Literally, Sadda Pind means ‘My Village’.
After reaching Sadda Pind, we saw a magic show, which was called ‘Jadugar’. Watching the magician showing brilliant
tricks was quite enjoyable. He even used some funny rhymes to make his performance interesting. Then, we saw a cot,
which was so huge that all of us stopped there to click photographs. We also saw a limousine scooter — its capacity was
quite huge. It was time for horse-riding and camel-riding. The experience was really thrilling.
The best part of our visit was eating traditional delicacies of Punjab, including Makki ki Roti and Sarson ka Saag. The
food was so delicious. The next surprise was a souvenir shop from where we bought a range of things. We purchased
slingshots, laser-lights, stress balls, and loads of key chains. We also went for a ride on the Ferris wheel and screamed a
lot. There were several other games and rides. We bought coupons and played games. Later, we went to a restaurant and
ate Dal-Chaval, Butter Chicken, and many more dishes. Overall, we spent an amazing time at Sadda Pind.

From our hotel, we headed towards Jallianwala Bagh, which was situated at a walking distance. As we entered the park,
we saw a garden, which was getting renovated at that time. Then, our tour guide told us the history of Jallianwala Bagh.
Let us discuss it briefly. About a hundred years ago, on 13 April 1919, thousands of people gathered to celebrate a
festival called Baisakhi. General Dyer thought that the Indians were protesting against the British. He and his troops
started to open fire on the crowd assembled to celebrate the festival. Many people died in the fire and some of them
who tried to escape either fell in the well or died due to the continuous firing. All of us also took part in an activity called
‘History Retold’. It was a very engaging experience.
As we were exploring the park, we saw 36 bullet marks on one of the walls. When we went forward we saw the Flame of
Liberty, which is a memorial dedicated to the people who were killed. Jai Hind to all those innocent people who lost their
lives in the massacre.

Designed by an American architect named

On the second day of our trip, we went to the Golden Temple, which was a fun and memorable experience. As soon as we
reached there, we were spellbound by the beauty of the temple. When we entered the temple, we learnt about different
religious rituals. Some of them covered our heads using a small cloth and washed our hands and legs with water. We
learnt an interesting fact that the Golden temple was made out of 100 kg of real gold. When we were going for darshan,
there was a long queue, but all the people around us were very helpful.
The environment at the temple was very calm. We drank sacred water in bowls. We also ate langar food that was very
tasty. While visiting the Golden Temple, we learnt a lot about Sikh culture and religion. We prayed to God and uttered our
wishes.
The surroundings of the Golden Temple were as bright as the shining sun. We saw the devotees offering their prayers.
Everybody felt relieved by the peaceful surroundings and the detailed structure of the Golden Temple. On our way back,
we reflected on how the lifestyles in Delhi and Punjab are different.
To conclude, we would say that reading this essay is not enough, go and visit the Golden Temple and enjoy its peaceful
atmosphere and beauty just like we did.

Pushpa Gujral Science City in Jalandhar was an awesome place to visit. There was a huge variety of exhibits on display.
First, we went to Dinosaur Park. We saw several robotic dinosaurs there. We also watched a movie on climate change
and how global warming is affecting our environment. The dinosaurs on display were moving and they looked so close
to life-size dinosaurs.
Thereafter, we watched an exhibit depicting planets and their moons. First, we saw Mercury, which is the closest planet
to the sun. Then, we got to know about the neighbouring planets of Earth. We learnt that Venus is the hottest planet in
our solar system. After that, we saw Mars followed by Jupiter and its moons. We were informed that Saturn is known as
‘Lord of the Rings’ because of its prominent ring system, which is composed mostly of ice. We also learnt about Uranus,
Neptune and the ‘dwarf’ planet — Pluto.
Later, we went for a ride on a virtual-reality roller-coaster, which was designed like a rocket. It was so thrilling and
adventurous. Overall, our visit to Pushpa Gujral Science City was a great learning experience.
