The 2016 GMC Terrain stands out in the compact SUV market for its impeccable, appealing style and a host of features that deliver on the promise of utility.
2. The 2016 GMC Terrain stands out in the compact SUV
market for its impeccable, appealing style and a host of
features that deliver on the promise of utility. As GMC's
second-biggest seller next to the Sierra full-size pickup,
the Terrain maintains its excellence in functionality and
striking curb-side appeal. The 2016 models carry the
torch and only improve upon GMC's winning formula
with new design embellishments and added features for
the Terrain and Terrain Denali. The revised line-up of
Terrain models includes the Terrain SL, SLE (SLE-1 and
SLE-2), SLT and Denali.
3. The most noticeable changes to the 2016 Terrain's
appearance are in the front fascia. The front-end grille
stretches lower than the prior year's model, expanding an
already massive chrome face to ensure other drivers take
notice. The upper-end of the grille now sits deeper as well.
Additional chromed details are featured on the rear,
tastefully improving an already stylish ride. The headlights
have been improved by the addition of new LED daytime
running lights on the uplevel models. The addition of LEDs
means an energy-efficient and long-lasting light source,
compared to traditional bulbs. The redesign of the front-end
includes a new power dome hood, a touch suggestive of the
Terrain's more-than-capable powertrain beneath it. The 2016
model's engine and six-speed automatic transmission are
unchanged from the previous year, both sporty and reliable,
and are always at the ready through a newly chrome
trimmed transmission shifter.
4. Additional changes to the 2016's interior include an
updated instrument panel "center stack," with fresh
control graphics and a convenient new storage shelf. The
SL and SLE models now come standard with premium,
high quality cloth fabric. The Terrain SLT is available
with a hot "Saddle Up" leather interior, and the pinnacle
model, the Terrain Denali, now sports a two-tone
combination of Jet Black and Light Titanium, delivering
the wow factor we've come to expect in the top end
Denali line. The eight way, power adjustable, front
passenger seat previously only available in the Terrain
Denali is now available in the SLE model as well.
5. Also only available on the Denali in the past, the Side Blind
Zone Alert option is now available for the SLE and SLT models.
Side Blind Zone Alert makes changing lanes safer and easier.
The Terrain will emit radar waves toward surrounding traffic and
will detect if a vehicle is located in the driver's blind spot,
sending an alert to the driver side mirror and giving the driver
enough information to avoid moving over and causing an
accident. In addition to the Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross
Traffic Alert functionality is available for the SLE and SLT. A
Rear Cross Traffic Alert will appear on-screen when oncoming
traffic is approaching from the left or right side behind the car.
An audio cue synced to the speaker on the same side of the
Terrain as the oncoming vehicle will also sound to warn the
driver not to back up. Forward Collision Alert and Lane
Departure Warning help make this vehicle one of the best
possible purchases for you and your family's safety when it
comes to the road.
6. To complement the interior updates, GMC's professional
grade designers have added new exterior options. New
premium exterior colors include Crimson Red Tintcoat and
White Frost Tricoat, shades as eye-catching as they sound.
To accompany the new chrome details, new 18-inch
aluminum wheel designs are available for non-Denali
models. For the Denali, GMC offers freshly designed 19-
inch aluminum wheels, the perfect touch to go with the
Denali's unique tri-segment grille texture up front. For the
2016 Terrain, GMC took one of the most compelling SUV
designs on the market, refused to mess with its revered
balance and proportions, and touched it up with details that
make it far more than the rugged vehicle underlying its
chrome. As GMC stated, they contemporized its appearance
while maintaining the professional grade precision that
defines a GMC vehicle from bumper to bumper.
7. That precision starts with its engine. The standard Ecotec
2.4L direct-injected engine serves up an EPA-estimated
32 mpg on the highway (forward wheel drive models). A
direct-injected 3.6L V-6 is also available and performs at
a best-in-class 301 horsepower (225 kW) with 272 lb.-ft.
of torque (369 Nm). The V-6 engine has enough horses to
deliver a trailering capacity of up to 3,500 pounds (1,588
kg). All of this power carries a roomy capacity, with
seating for five. The MultiFlex sliding rear seat,
exclusive to GM, allows for up to 31.6 cubic feet (894
liters) of cargo space behind the rear seat and an overall
63.9 cubic feet (1,809 liters) with the rear seat folded
down. The Terrain is as ready for adventure as it is for
your groceries. Four wheel drive is an option for the
SLE, SLT, and Denali models, meaning this SUV is no
slouch in snow and is capable of making its way off the
beaten path.
8. GMC has convenience in mind with the Terrain. A
programmable power liftgate is available for the SLT
(and comes standard on the Denali). The height can be
set on the liftgate so it will automatically stop at a certain
height, making it easier for shorter drivers to reach it
when loading or unloading or to prevent an accident with
low garage heights. If you're bringing your kids along for
road trips with their gadgets in tow, an available GMC
IntelliLink with OnStar and 4G LTE connectivity means
they'll be safe and entertained with Wi-Fi access right in
the vehicle. Whenever the car is running, so is the Wi-Fi
hotspot. A trial of 3 months/3GB data is available to test
it out, and expires based on whichever comes first.
9. The 2016 GMC Terrain excels in many areas. With
safety, power, connectivity and convenience in mind, this
compact SUV is top of its class. The latest model has it
all with plenty of luxurious touches and unquestionable
style to spare.
