4. ⦿Communicable diseases –
these are illness that can be
transferred or passed on from one person
to another.
they are caused by germs that
get into the body cells and produce waste
products that are poisonous, resulting to
infection.

5. ⦿Among the germs that can cause
communicable diseases are:
⦿Bacteria- are tiny
, one-celled organism
that grow anywhere.
⦿Viruses- are the smallest simplest forms
of life. They are the most common
causes of communicable diseases.

6. ⦿Fungi- are simple life forms that cannot
make their own food. They live in hair
nails and skin. E.g. Mushroom and yeast.
⦿Protozoa- are simple, animal-like
organisms. Malaria is a disease caused
by protozoa.

7. ⦿Colds- most common communicable disease
caused by hundreds different viruses. They
are spread through air and water.
⦿Pneumonia- is a serious disease of the
lungs that can be caused by a virus or
bacteria. Air sacs in the lungs are filled with
fluid and dead white cells rather than air.

8. ⦿Influenza or Flu- caused by Viruses. This
lowers the body resistance to bacterial
infections.
⦿Mononucleosis- “kissing disease” this is
common to young people caused by viruses
that result to high number of white blood
cells in the body. It is passed on through
direct contact such as (KISSING)

9. ⦿Malaria- caused by protozoa through the
bites of mosquitoes. Symptoms of this
disease include chilling, high fever, and
headache.

10. ⦿Noncommunicable or
chronic diseases -
are diseases of long duration and
generally slow progression. The four
main types of noncommunicable
diseases are cardiovascular diseases
(like heart attacks and stroke), cancer,
chronic respiratorydiseases (such as
chronic obstructed pulmonary
disease and asthma) and diabetes.

respiratory disease. It is estimated
that 35 to 50 percent of NCD deaths
occurred before age 60 years.

A significant proportion of
Filipino adults continue to be
exposed to the NCD risks of tobacco
and alcohol use, unhealthy diets and
physical inactivity. This makes
millions of Filipinos vulnerable in
developing NCDs in the future.

⦿Behavioral risk factors- tobacco and alcohol
use, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity
-can be modified
⦿Intermediate risk factors- elevated blood
lipids, diabetes, high blood pressure and
overweight/obesity
-can be controlled
