                                                          Considering Windows® 7?
Act now to help ensure successful migration

                                                          Windows 7
Overview Windows 7 was launched on 22 October 2009, and quickly became the
fastest-selling operating system (OS) that Microsoft® had ever released.

              your approach?
Although Windows XP still has a major foothold in the corporate PC

deploying your Windows 7 rollout. The

Analysts consider that a typical OS migration project will take between
12 and 18 months, yet many IT departments have not managed a major

Considering Windows 7?

  • 1. IBM Global Technology Services Considering Windows® 7? Act now to help ensure successful migration Windows 7 Overview Windows 7 was launched on 22 October 2009, and quickly became the fastest-selling operating system (OS) that Microsoft® had ever released. Windows 7 is Microsoft’s latest operating The momentum that surrounded the launch has continued unabated. system, and it is available now. What is your approach? Although Windows XP still has a major foothold in the corporate PC IBM can assist in planning, building and marketplace, the advent and widespread adoption of Windows 7 means deploying your Windows 7 rollout. The key factors are speed of deployment and that support for Windows XP from both Microsoft and independent minimised business disruption. IBM can software vendors (ISVs) will begin to decline: assist you with an XP Migration Options workshop that will help you understand • Analysts recommend that organizations consider the elimination of the IBM point of view, agree a course of action and get started. Windows XP by the end of 2012, when new versions of many existing applications would no longer support XP, and independent software vendors (ISVs) will increasingly withdraw XP from their portfolio of supported operating systems. • Microsoft’s extended support for Windows XP Service Pack 3 will end in April 2014, and no updates or patches will be offered after that date. The challenge Analysts consider that a typical OS migration project will take between 12 and 18 months, yet many IT departments have not managed a major client OS refresh in over six years.
