2. 3 things to do this year
1.Find out what’s out there and search/apply throughout the year
What’s happening in graduate recruitment?
What roles are being advertised now – including graduate roles, internships or PG
courses?
What are the entry requirements?
What’s the recruitment process likely to be?
Use MyCareerHub, attend talks, events and workshops, follow our blog…
2.Get ready for the recruitment process – polish up your CV, prepare for online
tests, assessment centres and interviews
www.ed.ac.uk/careers/application-interview-advice
3.Put together a plan of action for the year
Searching/applying for graduate jobs or PG courses is time consuming and you
might face a lengthy application process (e.g online applications, tests, assessment
centres and interviews)
You’ll also be busy with academic work and any other commitments that you have
Be organised and plan your time well so that you don’t miss out on any great
opportunities.
3. What you need to know
• Application deadlines for some grad roles and PG courses are very early in the
semester
• Lots of opportunities being advertised NOW until later this semester
• BUT opportunities can be advertised at any time of year – check job sites
regularly
• Use a range of job sites and other tools e.g. LinkedIn, social media…
• Don’t just rely on advertised jobs – target companies with speculative applications
• Employers want to recruit you but it’s up to you to ‘sell’ yourself on CVs,
applications and at interview/assessment centres
• Prepare early and get feedback if necessary (CV, cover letter and application
form feedback, practice interviews, practice assessment centres, practice tests…)
• You’re here to get a good degree – balance academic work with job applications,
career research
