A ctivity – Come into the classroom quickly and quietly. Sharpen pencils, get materials needed to start class. Start “Sponge” activity. M ovement – Yes, only to sharpen pencils and gather materials. Once you are seated, you must remain seated. P articipation – Students enter quickly and get ready for class quietly. Students work quietly and quickly on “Sponge” activity.
3. CHAMP’s Expectations: Completing the “Sponge”: C onversation – None H elp – Raise your hand and wait for the teacher to respond. Continue to work while waiting for the teacher to respond. A ctivity – Write the “Sponge” question on your Sponge paper and answer it using your Science book, notes or any other resources you might have. M ovement – None P articipation – Students complete “Sponge” activity within the 5 minute allotted time. Students quietly work with no help from neighbors.
4. CHAMP’s Expectations: Teacher Directed Instruction: C onversation – None H elp – Raise your hand and wait for the teacher to respond. A ctivity – Work on tasks and activities as assigned by teacher. Take appropriate notes in your notebook. Follow along and participate while reading aloud with the class. M ovement – None P articipation – Students are looking at and listening to teacher. Students raising hands and participating in discussion. Students writing in notebooks when appropriate. Students asking questions about discussion topic and sharing their experiences with the class.
5. CHAMP’s Expectations: Transition from one activity to another: C onversation – None H elp – Raise your hand and wait for the teacher to respond. A ctivity – Quickly put away the activity you are working on and do what the teacher tells you to do with it (keep it, turn it in). Quickly and quietly get out materials for next activity. Get ready to listen to teacher’s instructions about the next activity. This must be done quickly! M ovement – Yes, back to your seat if needed (from lab activity). P articipation – Students are moving quietly back to their seats (from lab). Students are putting away previous activity (turning in, keeping, etc.). Students are getting ready for next activity (getting out pencil, paper, notebook, etc.). This must be done quickly!
6. CHAMP’s Expectations: Group Work: C onversation – Voice Level 2 Voice Level 1 as you move into your groups. H elp – Ask Three, then Me Raise your hand and wait for the teacher to respond. A ctivity – Complete your group work making sure everyone completes their assigned job. M ovement – None, except assigned students. P articipation – Students collecting materials for group activity. Students completing tasks according to their job. Students remaining focused and on topic throughout the activity. Students sitting quietly when all jobs are complete. Students talking in Voice level 2.
7. CHAMP’s Expectations: Clean Up from lab: C onversation – Voice Level 2 H elp – Ask Three, then Me Raise your hand and wait for the teacher to respond. A ctivity – Collect personal materials and clean up area. Collect teacher materials and return to assigned area. Wait quietly in your seat for instructions and dismissal. M ovement – Yes, only the assigned students. P articipation – Students collecting all personal and teacher materials and putting them back in their assigned location. Students making sure trash gets in trash can and water gets cleaned up off tables and counters. Students sitting in seats quietly when done.
8. CHAMP’s Expectations: Leaving Class: C onversation – None if leaving class early. You can get you make-up work the next school day. Voice Level 2 if it’s the end of class. H elp – Approach the teacher and ask your question. Keep in mind you only have 5 minutes passing time (a hall pass can be given if you have a pressing issue). A ctivity – Push in your chair. Throw your trash away. Return any borrowed supplies from the teacher. Make sure your area is clean for the next student. Move from your assigned seat the your next class quickly. M ovement – Yes, quickly to your next class. P articipation – Students are moving quickly making sure their area is clean and tidy for the next student. Students move quietly, keeping their hands to themselves. Students push in chairs, throw trash away and wipe up any spills on table, counters, chairs or floors.
