Suggested Places to visit
Lyndhurst has been the "Capital" of the Forest
since William the Conqueror established the
area as a royal hunting ground in 1079, and
has been visited by Kings and Queens
throughout the centuries. A must for any
visitor to Lyndhurst is the New Forest
Museum, a unique guide into the Forest's
history and heritage.
The museum details the development of the
Forest since its creation by William the
Conqueror, and provides a first hand exhibition
of life and work in the Forest and
demonstrates the best the Forest has to offer.
Lyndhurst offers a wide range of shops, both
high street names and those exclusive to the
village, popular with those seeking that
special souvenir of their visit to the Forest.
And naturally there is a wide range of tea
rooms, pubs and restaurants.
The New Forest Wildlife Park
An acknowledged Conservation Park set in
25 acres of ancient woodland within the New
Forest Heritage area which has recently
become a National Park. Here you will find
part of Europe's largest collection of otters,
owls and other indigenous wildlife all in their
natural surroundings including, pine
martens, badgers, pole cats, mink and
foxes. You will also find some Scottish wild
cats, deer, lynx, wallabies and wild boar.

The Gardens at Chewton Glen
Points Of Interest
from Darren Venables
Head Gardener
Garden Recycling
For the last few years we have been
experimenting with composting our
garden waste to produce compost for
our gardens. This is now more important
than ever with our new kitchen garden
where the borders constantly require
soil improvement. We now have a
system up and running where leaves,
old bedding plants and even the old
bedding soil from the hotel’s displays
are broken up with a shredder and
mixed together.
After a couple of months the compost is
mulched back into the borders helping
to improve the soil structure as well as
provide valuable nutrients.
