Banco Santander has appointed Sheila Bair to its Board of Directors. Bair, an American born in 1954, will fill the vacancy left by Lord Burns and needs shareholder approval. She chaired the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation during the financial crisis from 2006 to 2011, overseeing deposit guarantees and resolving troubled banks. Santander believes Bair will provide significant contributions thanks to her international experience and knowledge of the US financial market, where Santander operates businesses.
