It is said that he was just wandering the island looking around when he happened to come upon a tree that had branches made up of a manmade pulley system.
The coconut fibers were dried and woven together, around 2-3 feet thick.
After finding the stone, water was beginning to find its way into the hole. The men came back the next day to find the hole filled up with water to around 33 feet.
The next year the men decided to dig a new hole, but this time making it parallel and 100 feet over from the original hole. The men eventually combined the two but the water flooded both holes. The men abandoned the search and the hole was left untouched for 45 years.
The drill punctured a flat, spruce raised area at 98 feet down. It was concluded by the men that they had dug through chests complete with coins inside.
The coin that was found in the Money Pit before it became flooded once again. There are not a lot of pictures of the coin and only a few people have seen it since the day it was discovered. It is still unknown what exactly the “8” means.
In 1861, the Oak Island Association began their attempt at finding the treasure. They decided to dig another tunnel going to the Money pit.
The two men believe that this stone was of similar origin to previously recovered stone.
Daniel Blankenship is one of two men still on the hunt for the treasure today.
The Borehole is a sunken piece of steel that goes down 180 feet into the hole. When a camera was placed into the hole, things such as a human body and severed hand were discovered.
