21. Technical analysis identified BRT corridors
Barr Foundation released report in support of
BRT
- Included technical outputs from ITDP
including 5 recommended corridors
The MBTA possesses a wealth of data on its transit demand but much of it isn’t fully analyzed and presented to the public. We’re updating the stop-by-stop demand data we mapped two years ago to see if there are changes in demand patterns. Major changes are unlikely but it is important that we keep our dataset current as we continue technical support for BRT.

As part of our ongoing technical support, we will be producing a service plan for the Phase 1 corridor. While the system is still in a concept, it’s important that we begin to educated Boston planners and engineers on BRT service planning. Best practices in BRT service planning are not yet widely used in the US.
TransMilenio made BRT modern and relevant in the era of rapidly growing cities awash in informal and chaotic transport but not awash in funds
We will host a station design contest to build enthusiasm about BRT in Boston. Architects and students will be encouraged to enter. It will be an “ideas” competition, focusing on developing a station design concept rather than an actual station to be implemented. Public input will be sought and the winner will be given a prize at an event to be held in Feb.
