6. The network operations department comprises of several
sections, this include;
Network Operation Center (NOC) unit
Transmissions unit
IP Backbone unit
The Core unit
Base Station Sub-System (BSS) unit
Field Operation/Data center

7. EMTS operate a single multi Vendor NOC which covers all sites
across the network to ensure 24/7 operation.
The vendors mode of operation is categorized into two;
The vendors that supply and monitor active equipments (MSC,
BSC, BTS, links) are HAUWEI, NOKIA SIEMENS (NSN),
ALCATEL-LUCENT (ALU) and AVIAT Networks.
The vendors that supply and monitor passive equipment
(Generators, rectifiers, batteries, ATS) are IHS, SWAP, and HTN.
EMTS monitors the Datacenter (BSC, MGW/MSC)

8. The EMTS NOC is made up of three category of engineers
they work in synergy to ensure effective 24/7 monitoring and
fault resolution, they include;
Front Office engineers
Back office Engineers
Field support Engineers
5/14/2015 8
9. The front office is made up of transmission (microwave & OSN),
BSS (2G &3G) and Datacom. and power personnel.
They provide the first line support via relating with field
support engineers and enterprise customers
They maintain records of events
They give information to users and network engineers
They monitor and diagnose problems on the network.

11. On the Qowisio interface, the operator is able to see alarms and
alerts, generate reports, carryout data analysis .
Use for remote access and monitoring of fuel level of critical
sites (BSC, MGW/MSC).
It indicates the diesel level of the generators on the site
The generators can be remotely switched on or off
It can indicate abnormal fuel drop

14. A powerful network analysis suite of tools which enables ;
troubleshooting, diagnostics and planning.
Network analyzer application, which features integrated
monitoring, mapping and alerting functionality,
Helps you address network issues before users are impacted.
It is used in the EMTS NOC to monitor Enterprise customers and
EMTS shops for network outages

17. Syniverse provides a holistic approach to solve subscribers’ roaming
issues actively and proactively with Visibility Services it provides:
Immediate access to crucial roaming information to deal with
problems rapidly
Analytical tools to assess inbound and outbound roaming quality
(network and end-to-end)
Proactive tools to analyze what is currently happening in comparison
to what is normal
using intelligence to maximize results while minimizing resources
5/14/2015 17
19. Google earth is used in EMTS NOC to search for location of a site
for fault management and other troubleshooting
Google Earth is a virtual globe, map and geographical
information program.
Google Earth displays satellite images of varying resolution of
the Earth's surface,
it allow users to see things like cities and houses looking
perpendicularly down or at an oblique angle
People use the applications to add their own data
5/14/2015 19
21. It is used in EMTS NOC to monitor the Etisalat IP backbones
(plane 1&2) and Etisalat PS internet.
It virtually connect all Huawei NE40 Router
cacti is a complete network graphing solution designed to
harness the power of RRDTool’s data storage and graphing
functionality
provides fast polling, advanced graph templating, multiple data
acquisition methods

23. Is a monitoring tool used to monitor the transmission tunnel of the network.
With PRTG, network operators can know if the network is running fine, who
and what is using the network bandwidth, if something is wrong with the
network.
With the PRTG, operators would be able to troubleshoot network problems,
before it causes downtime or economic loss.
PRTG can monitor:
Bandwidth could be monitor using SNMP, packet sniffers
Availability of the network devices websites or data bases
system parameters like CPU load, memory usage
Virtual servers, VOIP connections and so on
With PRTG, distributed monitoring is made easy by using remote probes

26. The structure of EMTS NOC is put in place to ease;
Interoperator and operator to vendor relationships through
clear metrics and detailed report extractions
collaboration to support SLA negotiation and improve decision
making
Generally when a problem /failure is noticed through the
monitoring tools, the front office personnel escalate them to the
FSE for action/resolution before customers are impacted.
