 First of all we have to emphasize that people
learn in a variety of ways and how they are
motivated. It is important to mention the
following factors that influence success:
1. Social context 5.Aptitude
2. Social Experience 6.Motivation
3. Relationship of L1 and L2 7.Instruction
4. Age
Some learners are affected in being successful
by the macrosocial factors because of their
impact on attitude and opportunity:
 The status of L1 and L2.
 Boundary and identity factors within and
between L1 and L2 speech communities.
 Institutional forces and constraints.
 Quantity and quality of L2 input and interaction are
determined by social experience and influence on
success in learning.
 Social variables are complex and often impossible to
control.
 Some L1 acquire with ease a L2
 Knowledge of L1 is an important component
of all L2 competence in its initial state.
 Genetic, typological, and historical
relationship of L1 and L2 will yield different
positive transfer, like vocabulary and writing
system.
 Younger learners have an advantage in brain
plasticity, in not being so analytical and in
general having more years to learn L2.
 Older learners have and advantage in
learning capacity, analytic ability, pragmatic
skills, and it is possible to achieve near-
native competence in L2.
 Aptitude Is an important predictor of
differential success in L2 learning, but it is
not completely deterministic.
 It determines the learner’s effort and desire
in learning and developing L2.
 It is a key to ultimate level of proficiency.
 Always a Quality Instruction of teaching
methods makes a difference in formal
context in L2 learning.
 A combination of different methods is the
wisest approach.

Why are some learners more successful than others

  • 2.  First of all we have to emphasize that people learn in a variety of ways and how they are motivated. It is important to mention the following factors that influence success: 1. Social context 5.Aptitude 2. Social Experience 6.Motivation 3. Relationship of L1 and L2 7.Instruction 4. Age
  • 3. Some learners are affected in being successful by the macrosocial factors because of their impact on attitude and opportunity:  The status of L1 and L2.  Boundary and identity factors within and between L1 and L2 speech communities.  Institutional forces and constraints.
  • 4.  Quantity and quality of L2 input and interaction are determined by social experience and influence on success in learning.  Social variables are complex and often impossible to control.
  • 5.  Some L1 acquire with ease a L2  Knowledge of L1 is an important component of all L2 competence in its initial state.  Genetic, typological, and historical relationship of L1 and L2 will yield different positive transfer, like vocabulary and writing system.
  • 6.  Younger learners have an advantage in brain plasticity, in not being so analytical and in general having more years to learn L2.  Older learners have and advantage in learning capacity, analytic ability, pragmatic skills, and it is possible to achieve near- native competence in L2.
  • 7.  Aptitude Is an important predictor of differential success in L2 learning, but it is not completely deterministic.
  • 8.  It determines the learner’s effort and desire in learning and developing L2.  It is a key to ultimate level of proficiency.
  • 9.  Always a Quality Instruction of teaching methods makes a difference in formal context in L2 learning.  A combination of different methods is the wisest approach.
