Standard Description
ISO 19115-1:2014 Information about identification, extent, quality, spatial and temporal aspects, content,
spatial reference, portrayal, distribution, and other properties of digital geographic data
and services
ISO 19115-3:2016 Integrated XML implementation of ISO 19115-1, ISO 19115-2, and concepts from ISO
19139
ISO 19115-2
(under revision)
Extension of the ISO 19115 for imagery and gridded data; Information about properties of
measuring equipment used to acquire data, geometry of measuring process employed by
equipment, and production process used to digitize raw data. This extension deals with
metadata needed to describe the derivation of geographic information from raw data,
including the properties of the measuring system, and numerical methods and
computational procedures used in derivation.
ISO 19139-2:2012 XML Schema implementation derived from ISO 19115-2
ISO 19157:2013 Information describing the quality of geographic data: components for describing data
quality; components and content structure of a register for data quality measures; general
procedures for evaluating the quality of geographic data; principles for reporting data
quality.
ISO 19157-2:2016 XML schema implementation derived from ISO 19157:2013 and the data quality related
concepts from ISO 19115-2
ISO 19119:12016 Technical service specifications, defines requirements for how platform neutral and
platform specific specification of services shall be created, in order to allow for one
service to be specified independently of one or more underlying distributed computing
platforms
4. Implementation of the GA Metadata Profile
GA Metadata Profile of the ISO 19115:2003:
⢠Based on the ANZLIC metadata profile
⢠Facilitate interoperability between the GA datasets and make
it easier to find, use and share GA data and other resources
⢠Change element obligations to ensure consistency and
compliance with legal and business requirements:
⢠Mandatory elements: Constraints, Format, Lineage,
Maintenance, Source, Format (storage +/- distribution),
Keywords (ANZRC)
⢠Conditional elements: Distribution, Spatial and Temporal
Extent

5. Implementation of the ISO 19115-1 in GA
⢠Cross-walk between 19115 and 19115-1 and metadata
transfer
⢠Use GeoNetwork for metadata creation, edit and search
⢠GA Metadata Profile of the ISO 19115-1:2014 (in
development)
⢠Improved capture of resource and metadata constraints
⢠Introduction of Services Metadata â mandatory for
services, user guide
⢠Recorded link between datasets and services
⢠Recording horizontal linkages between resources
⢠Standardised keywords (in progress)

7. OGC Standards and GeoNetwork at GA
⢠GA provides access to its corporate product catalogue using GeoNetworkâs OGC
CSW 2.0.2 interface
⢠http://ecat.ga.gov.au/geonetwork/srv/eng/csw
⢠Accords with GAâs strategy of adopting open standards to enable interoperability
⢠Several organisations routinely harvest GAâs corporate product catalogue using
CSW:
⢠data.gov.au
⢠Australian National Data Service (ANDS)
⢠Australian Ocean Data Network (AODN)
⢠Trove - National Library of Australia
⢠NCI
⢠GA leverages the CSW capabilities of the corporate product catalogue for in-house
developed systems :
⢠GAâs Data and Publication Search tool
⢠Tools for GA geophysicists to discover and access GAâs geophysical data
holdings
8. ⢠GeoNetworkâs virtual CSW capability is used to expose GAâs service
metadata as a service catalogue:
⢠GA has adopted the new ISO 19115-1:2014 metadata standard. Most
users require the metadata in the old ISO 19115:2003 standard.
GeoNetworkâs CSW can perform dynamic conversions to other formats.
⢠ISO have published an XSLT for conversion of ISO 19115-1:2014 to ISO
19115:2003, which is implemented in GAâs GeoNetwork CSW.
⢠OGCâs ISO Metadata Application profile for CSW 2.0.2 is specifically written
for ISO 19115:2003.
⢠The ISO 19115-3 schema plugin to GeoNetwork has so far been adequate
in adapting the CSW to work with the new ISO 19115-1:2014 standard
⢠Are there plans within OGC to develop a revised application profile of CSW
for the new ISO 19115-1:2014 standard?
