 SRSP Working on subsidize project
 VC approach is never used i.e. was a challenge
 Seedlings are produced all over Pakistan
 Haripur is most suitable for certain seedling
production
 Women have opportunity to generate income in
seedling
 Low investment huge return on investment
 Not a burden on women and do not alter their
routine
Overview of the Project
Goal:
To increase the income of the rural women in the
seedling sub sector.
Purpose:
To facilitate the rural women seedling producers to get
access to the domestic market for better income
opportunities by facilitating them through market
information, linkages and support services
 SRSP is facilitating women seedling producers
to promote the business of demand driven
container seedlings in Haripur and Abbottabad
districts of Hazara Division.
 Commercial Nursery Owners are providing
embedded business development services to
women seedling producers.
 Main focus areas of the project are technical
trainings and business linkages

Project:
Why Seedlings
 Seedling market is progressing with increased demand of
container seedling
 Commercial Nursery Owners are producing limited number of
container seedling
 Daily routine of women is not going to alter with seedling
production and women can earn income without having any
other burden
 Seedling production is comparatively more profitable than
any other subsector of agriculture
 Local resources can also be utilized to minimize costs of
seedling production
Project Result
 Over achieved target of the project
 Increase in income of women seeding producers; results of base line
Rs. 98/-, annual survey 2010 Rs. 133/- and Annual survey 2011 Rs.
1505/- per month.
 Demonstration effect has been started and in some areas self
initiation of seedling business has started.
 WSP have started scaling up seedling production with both quantity
and new verities as per market demand
 Women are happy to adopt business approach and discourages free
handouts
 Women attitudes has been changed and they have realized that
seedling business is really helping them as they used to sell in KGs
and now in tubes
 Women seedling producers are in position to address their practical as
well as strategic needs and men attitudes towards WSP has been
Key Challenges
 Working with potential seedling producers
 All the produces are new in seedling business needed to be skilled
regarding fruit and other seedlings.
 Due to demonstration effect number of seedling producer is increasing
 Project clients are 1348, few to show scale impact for both the district.
 Low Volume of Seedlings
 Focus on increasing group members to address quantity issue
 Seasonal seedlings with different varieties
 CNOs at Haripur offering low prices
 Exposure visit to National market and holding seedling exhibitions inviting
buyers from national market
 Producers are unable to sell their production in the national
market
 Promotion of collective sale mechanism and linkage building in the national
market
