2. Early life
• Born in Athens, Greece

• Parents from Nigeria (Lagos)
• Moved to Greece in 1991
• Antetokounmpo's father, Charles, is a
former Nigerian soccer player.
• His mother, Veronica, was a high-jumper.
3. • For the first 18 years of his life, he had no
papers, neither from Nigeria, nor from Greece.
• He officially gained Greek citizenship on May
9, 2013 (after he was drafted in the NBA), with
the official legal spelling of his name being
Giannis Antetokounmpo.
• His nickname is "The Greek Freak".
4. • Antetokounmpo grew up in Athens, in the
neighbourhood of Sepolia.
• Like many other immigrants in Greece, his
parents struggled to find work.
• They faced evictions, moved from place to
place.
• Antetokounmpo and his older brother,
Thanasis, helped out by selling sunglasses, hats
and bags on the streets.
5. Career
• In 2007, he started playing basketball (he even shared
the same shoes with his brother, Thanasis).
• By 2009 he was playing competitively for the youth
squad of Filathlitikos.
• On April 28, 2013, he officially made himself eligible
for the 2013 NBA draft.
• He fulfilled his draft projections as a first-round pick
by being selected 15th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks.
• On July 30, 2013, he signed his rookie scale contract
with the Bucks.
6. Now
• On February 19, 2017, he was selected for All Star
Game 2017. He became the first Greek NBA All-
Star.
• In the game, he led the East with 30 points in what
was a 192–182 loss to the West.
• At 22 years old he became the youngest player in
franchise history to start in an All-Star Game.
• Now he has a huge 100 million dollar contract with
Milwaukee Bucks and he is the first NBA player in
history to finish in Top 20 of all major stats.
