HIV (Humab immunidefiency virus) is a virus that attacks the body's immune system. If HIV is not treated, It can lead to AIDS (acquired immunidefiency syndrome.

1. Sexuality in the Philippines encompasses sexual behavior, sexual
practices, and sexual activities exhibited by men and women of
the Philippines past and the present. It covers courtship
strategies for attracting partners for physical and emotional
intimacy, sexual contact, sexual reproduction, building a family,
and other forms of individual interactions or interpersonal
relationships, as set and dictated by their culture and tradition,
religion, beliefs, values and moral convictions, psychology,
foreign influences, and other related factors.
The majority of the Filipino urban population today is clearly
Westernized, but still very conservative in its public and legal
sexual values. However, quiet homosexuality and heterosexual
cohabitation seem to be more socially acceptable today,
especially when they involve celebrities and politicians.

3. What is HIV & AIDS?
HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that
attacks the body’s immune system. If HIV is not
treated, it can lead to AIDS (acquired
immunodeficiency syndrome).
There is currently no effective cure. Once people get
HIV, they have it for life.
But with proper medical care, HIV can be controlled.
People with HIV who get effective HIV treatment can
live long, healthy lives and protect their partners.

How HIV infects?
CD4 cells are a type of white
blood cell. They're also called

T cells." That's because they

system to destroy viruses,

may make you sick.

5. ‘HIV infection in humans came from a type of chimpanzee
in Central Africa. Studies show that HIV may have jumped
from chimpanzees to humans as far back as the late
1800s.
The chimpanzee version of the virus is called simian
immunodeficiency virus. It was probably passed to
humans when humans hunted these chimpanzees for
meat and came in contact with their infected blood.
Over decades, HIV slowly spread across Africa and later
into other parts of the world. The virus has existed in the
United States since at least the mid to late 1970s

9. In September 2022, there were 1,347 confirmed HIV-positive individuals
reported to the HIV/AIDS & ART Registry of the Philippines (HARP). This was a
37% increase compared to the same reporting period last year (981) [Figure 1].

Philippines showed there were 12,859 reported HIV cases
from January to October 2022.Among the 12,859 cases

11. 82 (1%) were infected through sharing of infected needles,
32 (<1%) were mother-to-child transmission,
175 (1%) had no data on mode of transmission.
353 (26%) of individuals reported in October had an
advanced HIV infection.
1,321 (96%) were male while 62 (four %) were female.
A total of 1,383 individuals were confirmed to have been HIV-
positive in October.
833 (60 %) were cisgender
40 (3%) were transgender women
15 (1 %percent) were identified as others
3 (<1 %) as neither man nor woman;
492 (36%) had unknown gender identity.

12. 700 (51%) of the cases were 25 to 34 years old at the time
of diagnosis;
395 (29%) were 15 to 24 years old;
242 (18%) were 35 to 49 years old;
40 (3%) were 50 years and older;
6(<1 %) were less than 15 years old.
The age of the newly reported cases ranged from 2 to 75
years old.
As to age group:
The DOH data also showed that 1,346 (97%) acquired HIV
through sexual contact; 15 (1%t) through sharing of infected
needles; six (<1%) through mother-to-child transmission; while
16 (1%) had no data on mode of transmission at the time of
reporting.

Miguelito.

time or taking medicines to prevent or treat HIV.
Anal sex is riskier than vaginal sex for HIV

because these items may have blood in them, and
blood can carry HIV. People who inject hormones,

Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is treatment of people
infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) using
anti-HIV drugs. The standard treatment consists of a
combination of drugs (often called "highly active
antiretroviral therapy" or HAART) that suppress HIV
replication. The combination of drugs is used in order to
increase potency and reduce the likelihood of the virus
developing resistance. ART reduces mortality and
morbidity rates among HIV-infected people, and
improves their quality of life. The benefits of ART also
include the prevention of HIV transmission by
suppressing HIV replication in persons living with the
virus. This benefit of ART is also defined as “undetectable
equal untransmittable”

27. PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by about 99%.
PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from injection drug use
by at least 74%.
Pre-exposure prophylaxis (or PrEP) is medicine taken to prevent
getting HIV. PrEP is highly effective for preventing HIV when
taken as prescribed.
PrEP is less effective when not taken as prescribed. Since PrEP
only protects against HIV, condom use is still important for the
protection against other STDs. Condom use is also important to
help prevent HIV if PrEP is not taken as prescribed.
