Brief for Soap Opera

1. What our soap is about
The trailer that we are going to film will be a story line specific.
The story line involves a main character in our soap called
Stacey. Her boyfriend has been cheating on her and the
audience will find out who it is, which will be the climax of the
story.
Throughout the trailer the audience will see three suspects of
the affair, this will get people to talk about who they think the
character is having an affair with. Also, Stacey’s appearance will
worsen throughout the trailer showing what effect the affair is
having on her.

3. Target Audience
• Previously soap operas were targeted at stay at home mums but due to a
change in society and the roles of women as well as technological
advances the demographic has changed significantly. The current target
audience of soap operas is between the age of 16-60.
• Park Grove is suitable for a range of audiences, however our primary
target audience is 16-35 year olds between B and D class systems. The
soap will appeal to this audience as the characters we will include are
young and current and the story lines will be relatable to them, therefore
they will enjoy it.

4. Channel and Time
• Park Grove will be shown on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at
7:00pm on BBC1. We chose this time as it does not clash with any
other soaps, therefore there will be no competition. Also, it is not
too late or early which will be suitable for our target audience.
• We chose to show it on BBC1 because it is a well known channel
which targets to a wide and varied audience from diverse
backgrounds. BBC shows soaps which appeal to families and
audiences between 16 and 35.

5. What storyline will feature in our
trailer?
The trailer for our Soap Opera will be storyline specific.
The main storyline that will feature in our trailer is an on
going affair. The storyline involves a Young female character
Stacey who has been with her partner for a while, Liam. In the
past few Months Liam has been having an affair who is
unknown to the audience and this trailer is advertising the
reveal.
