Q7) Looking back at you
media preliminary task, what
do you feel you have learnt in
the progression from it to the
        full product?
QUESTION 7

I looked at my final product in comparison
to my preliminary task I can see how I
have improved. I found that my skills on
the software used and my knowledge of
   codes and conventions had improved.
Main Task

                    Photoshop
                   • I also improved my Photoshop
skills as the images I have
                     recently taken for my finished
product are at a much higher
Preliminary Task quality and standard.
                   • The image I had taken for the
                     Preliminary task was slightly blurry
                     showing that my photography
                     skills and camera angles have
                     also improved.
Main Task
Main Task Photoshop
                   • I used graphic features in both
magazines but I can see that I
                     have improved.
                   • The graphic feature in my final
                     product has had: Drop
Preliminary Task Shadow, Bold Text and Stroke.
This has helped in to stand out
                     and overall look more
                     professional.
                   • The graphic feature in my
                     Preliminary Task had no style
methods added to it which made it
                     look flat, plain and boring.
Main Task
                    Photoshop
                   • Using Photoshop I improved the
                     appearance of my barcode.
                   • In my final product, I rotated the
                     barcode, re-sized and re-
positioned it. This helped to make
Preliminary Task it look more professional than in
                     my Preliminary Task.
                   • It now is smaller and the
                     information about the magazine
surrounding it looks a lot more
                     clear and in order.
Photoshop
           Main Task Preliminary Task

• My coverlines before looked boring and unappealing. I added on my
final product a drop shadow which helped it to hand out.
• On my Preliminary Task the coverlines covered part of the main
image where in terms of codes and conventions it should only cover
  slightly.
• I made them look more professional by positioning them differently in
  my main task.
• Also, by underlining my coverlines i have made them stand out more
which may help to attract my target audience.
Photoshop
  Main Task
                        Preliminary Task

• I also improved my Photoshop skills as the name of the
magazine appears to be more eye catching, after I had
learnt the different tools such as drop shadow.
• Although in the Preliminary Task the magazines name did
have a drop shadow I improved it by using the advanced
settings such as: the spread of the shadow and how
  transparent the drop shadow is.
Main Task

                   Quark Xpress
                   • I used Quark Xpress to create my
                     contents page and double page
                     spread.
                   • When we created the school
Preliminary Task magazine I didn’t know how to use
                     the software such as Quark
Xpress, which I had to learn as I
                     used it.
Main Task

                   Quark Xpress
                   • The images I used within my
                     contents page have improved as
the sizing of the images now look
professional. I learnt how to do
Preliminary Task this by resizing the original image
box to get the size I desired.
                   • I also added captions under the
images on my final product. This
made it look more professional. I
did this by adding graphic features
                     and text.
Quark Xpress
  Main Task Preliminary Task

• In the preliminary task I didn’t really know how to make the
  columns look professional.
• To make columns I inserted a text box and there I changed
the settings to make 3 columns.
• I made the main text stand out by changing the colour and
I also made the page numbers bold in my final product.
Quark Xpress
Main Task Preliminary Task

• The masthead for the contents page was bland
on the preliminary task, but for the main task I
added a drop shadow and followed the codes and
conventions by making the text different from the
  name on the front cover.
• On the preliminary task I had already put the
magazines name and the date under the heading
‘CONTENTS’, which already followed codes and
conventions, so I did it again.
I can see now compared with my latest finished
final music magazine that my skills have widely
improved. Not only have I improved technically I
have also improved my presentation as the
layout looks a lot more professional. Also when I
started the preliminary task I didn’t have vast
knowledge on the codes and conventions, I did
know some but I quickly was taught them the
rest of them when creating my main task the
music magazine. This allowed me to make
progression as it made the final product look
more professional, like a real music magazine.
