2. : Vehicles
I love cars, bikes planes boats so no wonder I love the James Bond films they have all of those in each and every film.
And I Can not wait to see the new predator like Aston Martin DB 10 and the ferocious Jaguar CX 75 in action as the
infamous car chases that will inevitably take place in the films. In my opinion the cars are one of the most important part
of the film, James Bond has to have his toys modified with the best Gadgets and tricks installed.
Through out the years the bond films have done some extraordinary stunts on screen, and Spectre is no exception.
However the films have become more serious and less explosions and death rays from satellites orbiting space, don’t be
down hearted the film will include some awesome stunts by people, cars, helicopters, planes, the list goes on.
Expect to hear screeching tyres, and deep throated engines going at un Godly speeds, tearing through narrow cobbled
roads and flying down flights of stairs in the historic roads of Rome.
Aston Martin made 10 DB10’s, a pair for them selves and 8 for the movie. 2 for close up shots where the car has to look
good, a pair for all the stunts, which are fitted with roll cages, racing seats, another 2 that are stunt cars but modified
with the gadgets such as complex pneumatic mechanism in the boot for deploying the hidden guns and the last two
cars, known as Pod Cars these cars are for Daniel Craig to look as though he is driving for some more close up action
shots but secretly there is a seat bolted to the top of the car fitted with roll cages and a steering wheel connected to the
axels, so a professional driver can actually control the car whilst Daniel Craig can act the part and concentrate on acting.
No one has ever used Rome on this scale before, Neil Layton (the vehicle technical co-ordinator) and Gary Powell (the
stunt co-ordinator) and team had a meeting with the Mayor, as part of pre-production, to discuss their plans, and ask for
permission. Most importantly for the roads to be closed so the drivers don’t have to worry about civilians. As Layton
insists on having authentic action, he wants it to be real, no CGI and no jump cuts.#
Through out the 17 nights of filming on this one chase scene, Powell wanted pure speed which
the stunt crew amply delivered, to the extent where even the filming helicopters couldn’t
keep up with the drivers, which not only gives you a sense of the cars speed but also how
powerful these cars are! None of the action shots will be sped up, which some of the great
James bond films chases have been like, Pierce Bronson's iconic chase on ice, which was also
heavily CGIed with the audience didn’t like about it.
