WOOED BY GIANTS FROM THE WORLD OVER, INDIAN CONSUMER IS NOT IN APPLE’S FOCUS Title	 –“Not yet the Apple of India’s eye” Source – The Indian Express Issue	 – 11 March 2011
From last decade and Apple Inc has globally launched several of its high profile products such as iPod, iPhone, iPad and become very popular globally but Apple’s interest towards Indian consumer is very low. Apple Inc has not officially launched in India yet. At a time when  most top league multinational are ramping up their operation and going all out to woo Indian consumers, Apple silence is intriguing and indifferent. Apple India Pvt. Ltd a subsidiary of Apple Inc in India also not play any major role to grab the interest of Indian consumers. Even India doesn’t find a mention in Apple’s annual report. And that is because the size of Apple Inc Indian business is so small.
Alongside China and Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore are much bigger markets for apple in terms of sales and profitability and “the kind of retail network it has”  Indian figures almost at the bottom of the pile on all these parameters, says industry observers. The company doesnot run its own retail outlets in India as yet but sell its product through multi brand outlets and some exclusive Apple retailers such as iMagine.
Apple has grown consistently in the past four years, but the size of  Indian business is so small that, forgot about Apple Inc taking serious note of it, even analyst following the Indian market don’t keep track of its sales.. Apple had set up shop in India in 1996 with a paid up capital of Rs 3.5 lakh but no direct advertising and efforts made to create buzz and reach local customers. In the India market, Mac comprised 0.5% of the total 9.9 million PC sold in 2010 and their share is just 3% because Mac is one of the most expensive product in its segment. Apple products are most expensive in their respetive segments.
Indian consumer is not in Apple focus. For Apple,  India doesn’t seem to be a priority market for it as yet.  India finds no place in Apple’s new product launch. No direct advertising campaign and sales promotion efforts made by Apple India Ltd to reach out to local customers yet. Company doesn’t run its own retail outlets in India as yet. In computer, mobile, tablets and ipads market Apple share is miniscule in India. Apple India does not speak on issues beyond the features of its product.

Apple must be official launch their products in India so that consumer find low price even in India.
