Marlin Equity Partners is a global investment firm with over $3 billion of capital under management
Creates long-term value through leveraging a deep base of in-house operational resources with domain expertise: MARLIN INVESTS IN COMPANIES WITH GROWTH AND PROFIT POTENTIAL
As you can see, we have a large world-wide staff that is dedicated to this business unit.
This is a truly unique time for Arcserve. As you may know, it’s had a long history in the world of backup. Over the past few years, we have been making some dramatic shifts in our strategy with arcserve and the components that fit within its portfolio.
Our team is comprised of talent that comes with many years of experience in data and storage management.
We pride ourselves in being the only vendor that provides a comprehensive solution that addresses all the various needs in data management and protection; as well as having an architecture that allows organizations and service providers to integrate and interoperate with our solutions.
Don’t need to go through each point here… these hyperlinks don’t connect to the slides, either. Just a preview of features by product set.

The enhanced User Interface is an efficient and intuitive web based management and reporting console.
The new User Interface is built upon the concept of Data Protection Plans which are the building blocks for the overall data protection strategy. The user will build the plan by creating tasks to perform specific functions. The collections of tasks comprise the plan and a collection of plans comprise the overall data protection strategy
Enhanced reporting ensures the customer has a firm grasp of what is happening in the protected environment. Alerting, data trending, resource utilization, node status reports and data distribution are examples of some of the reports to be found in UDP
The Getting Started wizard walks the user through the data protection process and is intended for first time users, although even experienced users will find it’s functionality useful.
Arcserve Unified Data Protection offers Source side deduplication as well as Global Deduplication.
Source Side deduplication ensures minimal data is sent across the wire during backup jobs by comparing data at the source to data that has been sent in previous backup jobs and is already resident on the destination datastore. Data that is already resident will not be resent, thereby reducing the amount of bandwidth used by the backup job. Global Deduplication enables our customers to more effectively use their disk space by reducing the amount of data the RPS datastore is required to retain.
Secure replication from RPS to RPS, including the ability to do many-to-one replication, allows Recovery Points to be safely sent to disaster recovery sites or MSP locations. Organizations can also consolidate data from remote locations such as branch offices to centralized areas.
sites are deduplicated on the RPS datastore, thereby reducing the amount of disk space required to hold the backups.
The improved merge process reduces the load on the production machine by offloading the backup processes onto the RPS server.
Data Protection Plans are a new and exciting method of creating backup jobs in Unified Data Protection. Plans are built with the entire lifecycle of the data protection in mind, providing the ability to create tasks to achieve the level of RPO/RTO required. These tasks can create simple backup jobs to disk, or more complex backup jobs from disk to disk to tape as required.
As shown in the diagram, a building block approach is used, whereby similar or identical steps, or tasks, can be replicated or reused from plan to plan.
In the left hand example, the first task is “windows backups” and this can include any number of windows based machines. The next task will a file copy task which will copy specific files from the Windows backups for additional protection. The final step is to replicate the protected set, or “Recovery Point” to another server for final protection. The combination of these tasks creates a Protection Plan. Multiple protection plans constitutes the Protection Strategy.

Arcserve arcserve UDP provides the ability to perform agentless backups for VMware and Hyper-V environments.
UDP automatically discovers virtual machines on the target hypervisors.
Without the need of installing an agent in the guest machines, UDP provides for a single pass backup of the Host machine while offering granular file recovery from the guest machines.

Local and Remote Virtual Standby enables customers to have a ready image of their backups pre-registered with the hypervisor and ready to start in the event of primary server disruption.
As the names imply, the virtual standby image can be either local, residing in the same site as the primary machine or it can be replicated to a remote Disaster Recovery site.
Heartbeat monitoring between the standby machine and the Production machine can be configured and, in the absence of the heartbeat signal, can either trigger an automatic failover or alert the system administrator that a critical situation exists and may require a manual failover.

Tape Backup has long been a staple of the Arcserve arcserve offerings and our customer base has spoken loud and clear that this remains a necessity. With that in mind, we have integrated Unified Data Protection with Arcserve arcserve Backup to enable customer to safely protect their backups via tape.
This functionality provides the ability to copy Recovery Point Server image backups to tape for archival or compliance reasons.
To accommodate our partners who wish to manage protected environments via their own web portal or other creations, we have made the API set as well as the database schemas available.
This will enable straightforward and standardized 3rd party integration efforts with in-house applications, frameworks or platforms to extend the Unified Data Protection capabilities. This will be ideal for Remote Monitoring and Management integration efforts.

The licensing for Arcserve arcserve UDP is both simple and flexible. We have taken great strides towards making our licensing far less confusing in the past while enabling our customers the flexibility they’ve become accustomed to, allowing them unlimited use of all options and agents via our Managed Capacity offerings or allowing them to build their protection strategy to suit their environment more granularly.
Arcserve arcserve UDP is offered with the five different licensing methods shown above, ranging from “Standard” which provides UDP file protection coupled with basic Tape integration to “Premium Plus” which includes all of the UDP, ASBU and RHA functionalities. Alongside the primary server-based offerings, we are also offering Workstation licensing sold per workstation.
