WHY PROPHESY
• LET US LOOK AT THE DIFFERENCE
BETWEEN PROPHESY AND
PROPHECY
• PROPHECY MEANS TO FORTH TELL.
TO SPEAK PROPHETICALLY OF
THINGS TO COME. TO PROPHESY THE
FUTURE.
• PROPHESY IS TO PROCLAIM AS THE
MIND OF GOD. TO SPEAK
BODACIOUSLY AS THE ORACLE OF
GOD. TO DECLARE
5. I Corinthians 12:7
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every
man to profit withal.
Gift/Charisma
A divine gratuity, i.e. A spiritual endowment, i.e.
A religious qualification, or faculty
It is a free gift.
Greek
6. 1 Corinthians 14:1 Follow after charity,
and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that
ye may prophesy.
Prophesy
to foretell events, to divinely, speak under
inspiration, to exercise or operate in the
prophetic office
7. 1 Corinthians 14:3
But <de> he that prophesieth <propheteuo> speaketh <laleo>
unto men <anthropos>, to edification <oikodome>, and <kai>
exhortation <paraklesis>, and <kai> comfort <paramuthia>.
8. Edification
• To Exhort - This is the base of prophesy. The
architecture, or structure; figuratively
• Confirmation: speaks to the building up of by
edification.
11. 1 Corinthians 14:5 I would that ye all
spake with tongues, but rather that ye
prophesied: for greater is he that
prophesieth than he that speaketh with
tongues, except he interpret, that the
church may receive edifying.
12. • 1 Corinthians 14:29-33 Let the prophets speak
two or three, and let the other judge. If any
thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let
the first hold his peace. For ye may all
prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all
may be comforted. And the spirits of the
prophets are subject to the prophets. For God is
not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in
all churches of the saints.
13. • 1 Corinthians 14:37 If any man think himself
to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him
acknowledge (become fully acquainted with),
that the things that I write unto you are the
commandments (authoritative prescription) of
the Lord.
14. • 1 Corinthians 14:39-40 Wherefore, brethren,
covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with
tongues. Let all things be done decently and in
order.
