AoC London Region Members’ Bulletin – 10 September 2010
Headlines...
Colleges Week 2010
Launched two years ago, the week is the sector’s major celebration of the economic and
social contribution of Colleges. It seeks to raise awareness among selected audiences of their
work and helps ensure that students and businesses make informed choices about the range
of education and training on offer in the UK. It has also proved a popular and useful tool
for individual Colleges to engage with new partners and launch dialogues with unfamiliar
audiences.
National and College public relations activity during the weeks has attracted over 1,200
pieces of media coverage since launch, resulting in more than 14 million people hearing our
key messages about the vital role Colleges play in our country.
This year we are showcasing:
the work of Colleges as centres of excellence in both higher education and sport
the breadth of opportunities available to the 831,000 16 to 19-year olds who choose to
study at College
businesses succeeding in a difficult climate with College support.
The week will be separated into four strands. Colleges can get involved in as many strands
as they wish. For general enquiries please contact the managing agency, Octopus
Communications, on the Colleges Week hotline: 01753 827291, alternatively email the
Colleges Week team at Octopus on collegesweek@octopuscomms.net. The Colleges Week
2010 website will be live by the third week of September: www.collegesweek.org.

London Region Post-14 Network Strategy Group Update
At the most recent London Region Post-14 Network Strategy meeting (22 June) the group
spent time speculating on the policy and strategy that the then newly elected coalition were
proposing to adopt on post-14 and Lifelong Learning. They also agreed to hold a seminar
early in the new term to pool our experiences, and conjectures.
Consequently you are hereby invited to a Network Members only seminar, to be held on
Tuesday 21 September, 4.30 – 6.30 pm, to share reflections on the direction that the coalition
government is taking. The seminar will be held in room G02, located on the ground floor of
the Institute of Education, 55-59 Gordon Square, London WC1H 0NU.
This term the group intend to hold two conferences, one around qualifications and the
st
curriculum (21 October) and the other around organisation and governance (8 December).
We anticipate that this seminar will help to inform both conferences.
If you are able to join the members only seminar please respond to Richard Bull at
r.bull@ioe.ac.uk. For more information please contact Rebecca Breen at
Rebecca.breen@aoc.co.uk.
