What is Adaptive Learning?
Adaptive learning, also known as adaptive teaching, is an educational
method which uses computer algorithms as well as artificial
intelligence to orchestrate the interaction with the learner and deliver
customized resources and learning activities to address the unique
needs of each learner.

What is Adaptive Learning?
Adaptive learning allows choices of
● learning goals
(e.g. students have a choice of content direction and can change content
load)
● learning speed
(e.g. extra credit, revisit content asynchronously)

Goal: I wanted the class to be as inclusive as possible and centered on student
learning
● What I did in the past:
- choices within technology stack
● New options based on DEI:
- expanded technical choices (cost-friendly)
- learning paths based on their interests (introvert, extrovert)

“I love the video lessons and zoom recordings. I like the recordings because they are usually a lot longer, and I like
watching them when I can't make it to the zoom meetings.
I also like how we get to pick what track we are on. It feels like I'm learning what I wanted to learn.”
What were your favorite assignments?
“discussions with my peers to know what they are creating.”
“I liked doing the discussions about our project. It was nice to see what our peers were doing too.”
“So far it was the domain name and getting to see why people were choosing what names.”

Q: What worked the best for you in this class? What did you like the most?
● Office hours for support
● Watching videos and lectures, it's great I can be able to go back and listen to details I missed.
● practice and practice exercises
● I like how we have optional zoom meetings to check in.
● The quizzes
● I love the videos that you make that explain step by step instruction.
● Quizzes
● I like the reminders and the zoom helps stay on track. I think for asynchronous courses it can get tricky staying on
track with the modules.No
● I liked the detailed tutorials because they helped slow things down and helped me visualize the assignment.
● I like how the lectures are short and use simple and easy to understand language.
● I love the video lessons and zoom recordings. I like the recordings because they are usually a lot longer, and I like

Conclusion:
● The majority of the students chose Designer role.
● There is interest in technology: Developer 9%, Unicorn 27%
● Students enjoy collaborative aspect of the course.
● Job Role choices help with maintaining interest and schedule load.
● Students enjoy optional Zoom session.

Conclusion: What I have learned
1. Students become more curious about learning with choices provided
2. By Week 8, more students chose Unicorn track
3. Some students who choose Unicorn track submitted work for designer track
only.
4. By Week 8, most of the students identify themselves as designers.

How Adaptive Learning Relates to DEI?
● Starts with Inclusion → Creates Equity → Embraces Diversity

Inclusion - Equity - Diversity:
● By opening different, inclusive learning paths, I created an equitable environment that allows diverse students to grow.
● This, in turn, leads to positive student experiences and promotes diversity in future classes
through student-instructor referrals and HNU retention.

Inclusion - Equity - Diversity:
● By opening different, inclusive learning paths, I created an equitable environment that allows diverse students to grow.
● This, in turn, leads to positive student experiences and promotes diversity in future classes

Future Goals:
1. Aggregate and analyse data over time:
➝ Are there any trends?
➝ Fine-tune learning content based on the findings
2. Apply Adaptive Learning to other courses.
3. Repeat Step 1.
