1. Great Places to Photograph People in Frisco,
TX and Surrounding Areas
One of the questions I get asked most often as a professional photographer is "Where is a
good place to take photos in this area?". My favorite place is probably my Frisco
photography studio, especially when it's 100 degree's outside, but when the weather is
good, nothing beats a location shot to capture the true flavor and relationship of a family, or
capture a distracted child in a special moment. I'm going to focus on places in the northern
suburbs of Dallas, such as Plano, Frisco, McKinney, and Allen since that is where I do most
of my work.
Central Park located just south of Warren on Parkwood (west of Stonebriar mall) is a
favorite location if many a Frisco photographer. In addition to it's easy to get to location,
this park was designed as if a photographer was in charge. Waterfall? Check. Sculpture?
Check. Stone steps? Check. Scenic backdrops? Check. There is lots to see and do in this
park, so it really offers a great opportunity for a family to explore and learn a little about
history as well.
Another favorite place is Frisco Commons. It's a pretty good drive to the north but well
worth it. I love capturing children at play and this is the best place to do it. There is a splash
park an incredible playground, a pond, tree covered trails, and even a wonderful
monument. Spending an hour in this Frisco Park with a camera is guaranteed to produce a
number of photos you will cherish.
McKinney offers a couple of great places to take photographs. When it comes to senior
photography my favorite is the Adriatica. On the corner of Stonebridge Drive and Virginia
Pkwy this is a development that looks like a piece of Europe fell out of the sky. It's
unfortunate that currently this development has been slowed down by the economy,
because I can tell you the location is phenomenal and it's not even done! We are talking
fantastic stonework, incredible monuments, and even a Starbucks (Nothing like a Frap after
a shoot in the summer). When it's done it will even have a ship docked in the lake.
Further east is downtown McKinney. Think deep Ellum without all the crowds. It affords
some great opportunities for urban textures and quirky backdrops. Afterwords you can slip
in some antique shopping as well. The older warehouse buildings with generations of paint,
cracked stones, and rusted hardware can add allot of flavor to your pictures.
At the corner of Bethany and 75 in Allen, you will find one of those interesting European
style developments called Watters Creek at Montgomery Farm. Running down the center of
it as a beautifully designed waterway with trails and benches. If your going for urban
sophisticated this may be the place to do it, if it's convenient. Additionally there is a trail
system behind it, but this is currently under developed.
Last but certainly not least is Legacy Center in Plano. They have a wonderful water feature
and scenic park benches. One of my favorite shots ever was when I photographed a family
having ice cream together as the walked around this park and relaxed on some benches.
