• X first appeared in X #1 (May 1962), written by
writer-editor Stan Lee, sketched and co-plotted
by Jack Kirby, and colored by Paul Reinman.
• Lee cites influence from Frankenstein and Dr.
Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in the X's creation.
• In the debut, Lee chose grey for the X because he
wanted a color that did not suggest any particular
ethnic group. Colorist Stan Goldberg, however,
had problems with the grey coloring, resulting in
different shades of grey, and even green, in the
issue. After seeing the first published issue, Lee
chose to change the skin color.

X is a God and is a subject in many works of

not need to sleep and will not die from a lack of

X named after Ebenezer X from the 1843 novel by Charles Dickens. He
is a wealthy Scottish business magnate and tycoon. He was in his first
few appearances characterized as a greedy miser and antihero…
But in later comics and animated shorts and the modern day he is
more often portrayed as a charitable and thrifty hero, adventurer,
explorer, and philanthropist. X was created by Barks as a comic book
character originally as an antagonist for Y , first appearing in the
1947 Four Color story "Christmas on Bear Mountain" (#178).
The character soon became so popular that mcduck became a major
figure of the Duck universe. In 1952 he was given his own comic book
series, called Uncle X, which still runs today. X was most famously
drawn by his creator Carl Barks, and later by Don Rosa. Comics have
remained X's primary medium, although he has also appeared
in animated cartoons…
