that negatively affects how you feel, the way you
think and how you act.

depression.

population size, followed by China,
USA, Brazil and Indonesia.
The World Health Organization
predicts that by 2020, depression
will be the second-leading cause of
disability in the world
4. Teenage Depression :
Teenager or teen :
a person who falls within the ages of 13 to 19 years old.
Depression among teenager is common but frequently
unrecognized.
Also called as Adolescent Depression
5. Cause of depression :
Brain chemistry.
Abnormality in brain chemicals lead to depression.
Hormonal Change
Changes in the body's balance of hormones may trigger depression.
Inherited traits.
More common in people whose blood relatives have the condition.
Early childhood trauma.
Traumatic events during childhood may cause changes in the brain
that make a person more susceptible to depression.
Negative thinking.
Teen depression may be linked to learning to feel helpless rather than
learning to feel capable of finding solutions for life's challenges.
6. Symptoms :
Poor school performance
Not being with friends and not doing activities
Sad and hopeless emotions and attitudes
No energy or enthusiasm
Short tempered
Taking criticism badly
Thinking your unable to do well
Guilt
Forgetfulness
Always being tired
Changes in your eating and sleeping routine
Having problems with authority
Suicidal thoughts or actions
8. Precautions required to prevent teen depression :
Encourage your child’s passions.
Practice healthy living.
Insist on regular sleep.
Encourage exercise.
Focus on the good things that happen every day.
Help your child learn to cope with stress.
Build your child’s belief in his own abilities.
Increase her feeling of personal control.
Help teens to use social support effectively.
Maintain open lines of communication.
Stay aware of their functioning.
9. Survey Report :
Based on the survey conducted among 20 children ( age group:
13 - 19 years ) in my locality who are studying in 7th, 8th, 9th,
10th, 11th, and degree course.
